      This position is split between Brown County Parks and Austin Straubel International Airport. The job will require working for the Parks between April and October and working for the Airport between November and March.


      The Park Ranger will oversee daily operations, customer service, enforcement of rules, and maintenance of the assigned parks. The ideal candidate will be skilled in the maintenance and operation of parks, natural resource management, rule enforcement, and grounds care. The candidate must possess strong communication skills, the ability to safely operate equipment, and the ability to perform building and equipment maintenance, as well as provide exceptional customer service. The Park System has an annual attendance of over one million visitors.


      This position will assist at all park areas as directed by the supervisor, but the primary responsibility would be state trail oversight, including Fox River, Mountain Bay, and Devil's River Trails.


      From November through March, the Park Ranger will work at the Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport supporting the Airfield Maintenance Department in their daily operations, snow removal, grounds maintenance, and FAR Part 139 compliance.

      Recommend and implement solutions to provide safe, clean, and aesthetically pleasing facilities.

      Provides exemplary customer service and actively takes part in supporting a positive environment for internal and external relations.

      Possesses the ability to resolve conflicts and enforce violations to the extent allowable per BC Code.

      Possesses the ability to issue verbal and written warnings and/or citations to visitors.

      Displays exceptional verbal and written communication skills when working with co-workers and customers.

      Implements Department and County goals, objectives, and policies; maintains performance standards.

      Ensures smooth day-to-day maintenance, operations, and supervises/directs the work of seasonal staff in the assigned areas.

      Performs preventative maintenance, troubleshoots, and makes repairs on motorized equipment, machinery, buildings/HVAC systems, and other facilities.

      Operates trucks, tractors, mowers, chainsaws, skid steers, snow grooming equipment, firefighting equipment, and other related equipment.

      Operates and takes part in snow removal operations as directed, responding on a twenty-four-hour basis to the needs of the Airport.

      Performs pavement repair and maintenance.

      Prepares monthly and special reports as required.

      Manages and works with organized volunteer groups.

      All other duties as assigned.

      Education and Experience:

      Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Natural Resource Management, Landscaping, or any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.


      Licenses or Certifications:
      Must possess, or be able to possess a Wisconsin Class A Commercial Driver's License within 1 year of employment;
      CPR and 1st aid certification or the ability to obtain.


      Security:

      Ability to successfully complete an FBI background check/security threat analysis and maintain unescorted access to the SIDA.

      The ideal candidate will be a quick and independent learner, and able to adapt to new tasks.

      Knowledge of principles, techniques and practices related to public recreation and parks maintenance.

      Strong organizational skills.

      Knowledge of basic mechanical operations.

      Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry and electrical operations (construction).

      Knowledge of equipment used in park operations.

      Ability to perform park inspections, including grounds, buildings and equipment to ensure compliance with established standards, regulations and laws.

      Must have exceptionally strong customer service and communication skills.

      Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work place.

      Knowledge of chemicals, pesticides, herbicides and cleaning products.

      Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, other departments, and the general public.

      Ability to learn aviation radio procedures, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and TSA procedures and regulations.

      Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
