- Patrol assigned area on foot or in a vehicle to enforce parking regulations.
- Respond to parking complaints.
- Accompanies City street sweeper and issues citations for vehicles parked in violation of posted sweeping days/times.
- Issue citations to violators of parking regulations.
- Prepare written reports and maintain records on activities.
- Report hazardous conditions, such as missing traffic signals or signs, to supervisor.
- Provide information to the public, relative to parking regulations, and answer other routine questions.
- Correct English usage, spelling and grammar.
- Report writing procedures.
- Read, understand and interpret parking laws.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Current work schedule is 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.Position is limited to 20hrs/wk or 960 hours in a fiscal year
Under general direction, issues citations for parking violations as defined by the California Vehicle Code and the Municipal Code. Performs related work as required.
Job Characteristic: May work a varying schedule of hours which may include early mornings, days, nights, weekends and holidays.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed primarily outdoors, and in a parking enforcement vehicle. When work is performed outdoors, there will be exposure to the elements. An incumbent walks for substantial periods of time and may walk on slippery/uneven surfaces. An incumbent stands and may crouch, twist, reach bend and grasp and be exposed to grease/oil, fumes, dust and vehicular traffic, may lift and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. An incumbent must be able to meet the physical requirements of the class and have mobility, vision, hearing and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities. Previous law enforcement related experience is highly desirable.
A valid California driver's license is required.
