      About the Department

      North Carolina State University Transportation Department (NC State Transportation) is a receipts-supported auxiliary within the Finance and Administration Division responsible for parking and transit services, managing over 20,000 parking spaces, maintenance and operation of 9 parking decks, enforcing parking regulations, parking citation review and appeal and administration of a 10-route transit system serving over 3.2 million riders per year.

      Essential Job Duties

      Parking Enforcement Officers patrol and regulate NC State University’s 20,000 parking spaces. Officers utilize license plate recognition technology that is attached to vehicles to scan license plates, gather data and write citations to vehicles that are not in compliance. Parking Enforcement Officers uphold the standards set forth by the Parking and Transportation Ordinance.

      Officers also provide motorist assistance, maintain the bicycle abandonment program, serve as ambassadors on campus, assist with event traffic control and immobilize vehicles using boots/clamps.

      The primary duties of the Parking Enforcement Officer include, but are not limited to the following:
      • Patrol and monitor specific areas of campus utilizing license plate recognition and other provided tools
      • Enforce parking regulations through education, citations and immobilization using boots/clamps
      • Operate computers, handheld devices, printers and other standard technology
      • Provide traffic control assistance
      • Provide motorist assistance
      • Answer questions and effectively communicate with students, faculty, staff and campus guests
      • Assist External Operations (facilities) and other department operations
      • Perform monthly vehicle inspections using a specific checklist
      • Assist with event parking

      Minimum Experience/Education

      High school diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

      Some positions may require a valid NC Driver’S License.

      Other Required Qualifications

      • Ability to operate standard technology, including tablets, handheld devices and computers
      • Ability to operate license plate recognition technology with provided training
      • Possess excellent verbal communication skills
      • Must have skill set to assist all customer personalities
      • Ability to re-position and/or move up to 30 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
      • Ability to drive a vehicle for an extended period of time. Ability to get in/out of a vehicle numerous times a day
      • Ability to work traffic posts, standing for long periods of time in various weather conditions
      • Ability to work collaboratively on a team
      • Self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision

      Preferred Qualifications

      • Previous enforcement experience
      • Microsoft Office knowledge
      • Basic computer skills

      • A valid Driver’s License is required
      • A valid NC Driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of start date, must be maintained.
