- High School or equivalent and;
- Two (2) years of related experience.
- Possession of an appropriate driver’s license for equipment operated and any license, training, or certification required by law or regulation to complete assigned tasks.
- Some positions require a journeyman certification.
- Performs and directs all phases of light construction, maintenance, and repair projects.
- Repairs, tests, and maintains a variety of mechanical equipment.
- Supervises a crew of unskilled or semi-skilled laborers.
- Operates automotive and mechanical equipment; uses a wide variety of hand and power tools.
- Keeps routine records and makes simple reports.
- Sets up barricades for special events.
- Ensures cleanliness of parks, removing trash and debris from grounds and playgrounds.
- Performs groundskeeping such as weeding, mowing, edging, etc.
- Performs related work as required.
- Knowledge of pertinent standard methods, practices, and procedures used in construction, maintenance, and repair work.
- Knowledge of pertinent construction, maintenance, and repair materials, tools, and equipment.

- Skilled in routine care and use of pertinent facilities, tools, and equipment.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

- Ability to operate light automotive and mechanic equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Recruitment Range: $15.45-$17.96 hourly dependent on knowledge and experience
Minimum Preparation for Work:
The Parks & Recreation Maintenance Worker I performs semi-skilled work in construction, maintenance, and repair.
An employee in this class, under general supervision, performs duties and provides general direction to a variety of light construction, maintenance and repair projects. Work is performed under the general supervision of a lead worker or other operating official. Supervision may be exercised over unskilled or semi-skilled workers. May be subject to emergency call as part of routine duties. Work is evaluated based on observed and achieved results.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to hold or feel, reach with hands and arms, walk, talk, smell and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, crouch and crawl. Specific vision abilities include near distance, far distance, color, and peripheral vision, and depth perception.
The employee regularly lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 100 pounds.
Work Environment:
An employee in this job is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, and has a risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment may be loud.
