      JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

      The College of Agricultural Sciences Department of Food Science is seeking to hire students for the following:

      Duties include:

      • Conduct organized research in the area of food chemistry/food microbiology
      • Perform independent literature searches and prepare summaries of topics pertinent to ongoing and future research
      • Prepare summaries of research projects conducted in the laboratory
      • Conduct research under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) leading to peer reviewed publication. Assist PI with grant preparation
      • Perform analytical procedures and protocols as directed
      • Collect and analyze data from ongoing research projects
      • Supervise undergraduate and graduate student researchers in the lab
      • Train new students in administrative procedures used in the laboratory
      • Maintain inventory and order research supplies and materials as needed
      • Assure that purchasing card transactions are reconciled in a timely manner
      • Maintain files (electronic) of protocols
      • Assure students provide appropriately formatted and referenced protocols as they are developed for the laboratory

      BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

      Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

      Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR).
