- Assist students enrolled in English and writing-intensive courses in one-on-one appointments in areas such as thesis development, essay cohesiveness, research practices, and grammar and spelling
- Conduct student workshops, visit classrooms, design handouts and resources, and offer other student-based services
- Collaborate with instructors to support students with assignment-specific criteria
- Track student progress and provide feedback, while ensuring confidentiality
- Collaborate with other campus personnel to provide comprehensive academic services
- A required minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in English or a closely related field
- Ability to assess student academic needs based on course requirements and writing proficiency
- Prior experience in the teaching or tutoring of writing is highly desirable but not required
- Excellent oral and written skills

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Penn State Wilkes-Barre Learning Center is seeking a part-time Professional Writing Tutor.
The tutor will be expected to provide non-classroom one-on-one support to students enrolled in various English and writing-intensive courses. The tutor will also conduct a range of workshops for both students and faculty.
This is a part-time position for 10 - 15 hours a week (2 - 4 days per week) during the academic year. The Professional Writing Tutor reports to the Learning Support Coordinator. The position may expand in the future to include campus-wide drop-in writing assistance and other duties. Pay rate is $20 an hour.
