      The Role
      Liberty Science Center (LSC) is seeking a part-time STEM Presenter of Public Programs to provide highly interactive and engaging educational experiences and demonstrations to LSC’s guests. The STEM Presenter’s primary focus areas will be delivering various on-site programs within LSC’s exhibition galleries, theaters, and laboratories that captivate and inspire all guests with the power and fun of science. The STEM Presenter will also be responsible for providing exemplary frontline guest services at all times to foster a safe and enjoyable environment.

      The STEM Presenter of Public Programs will report to the Senior Director of School and Public Programs.

      What You’ll Do
      The STEM Presenter of Public Programs will:

      1. Present daily science, animal-based demonstrations, and hands-on experiences to guests within LSC’s gallery spaces
      2. Deliver theatrical educational experiences through large-scale stage presentations
      3. Perform the tasks involved with the setup and breakdown of programs and assist in associated administrative tasks
      4. Maintain overall cleanliness and organization of presentation areas
      5. Ensure that all programs are performed in a manner that is consistent with LSC’s approach to science teaching and learning, utilizing a theatrical approach to reach different age groups and abilities
      6. Work with other members of the Guest Programs team to develop and implement new demonstrations and programs and/or additional science content for existing programs as needed
      7. Present demonstrations or hands-on experiences at offsite and onsite events as needed
      8. Maintain a thorough knowledge of safety protocols
      9. Consistently present an eager, friendly, service-oriented demeanor
      10. Serve as an informational resource for guests, keeping up-to-date on all of LSC’s exhibitions, films, and programmatic offerings
      11. Be an ambassador for Liberty Science Center, consistent with our brand promise
      12. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

      Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

      1. Knowledge in physical, chemical, earth, and/or biological science preferred
      2. Excellent communication skills, including strong public speaking and performance skills
      3. Skilled at speaking to a varied audience of different ages, backgrounds, and abilities
      4. Experience working with liquid nitrogen and/or fire is a plus
      5. Comfort in handling animals, such as reptiles, insects, etc, is highly recommended
      6. Strong time management skills necessary
      7. Ability to create a safe environment for audience members and staff
      8. Experience using AV equipment a plus
      9. Ability to work independently and think on one's feet
      10. Ability to work collaboratively with supervisor and peers
      11. Guest services skills

      Preferred Qualifications

      1. Pursuing a college degree in a science field or a BA/BS in a field of science, such as engineering, chemistry, physics, earth science, or biology
      2. Acting experience is a plus
      3. 1+ year(s) of experience working in informal education

      Classification & Schedule
      This role is part-time, non-exempt, meaning it is eligible for overtime for work that exceeds 40 hours per week. All overtime must be approved in advance by the supervisor.

      STEM Presenter is expected to be scheduled up to 28 hours per week. Hours may vary based on business demand. Ability to work weekends is a must! All LSC employees must be able to work a flexible schedule that could include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as business needs require.

      Physical Demands
      The STEM Presenter will operate standard office equipment, such as a computer, printer, and phone. In addition, the STEM Presenter will carry and operate a two-way radio. The majority of work takes place on the museum floors. During those times, the STEM Presenter will stand/walk for long periods of time and maneuver through crowds with moderate to high noise levels. The ability to lift 35 lbs. will be necessary. Must be comfortable being trained on and using liquid nitrogen and fire. The STEM Presenter will also be exposed to loud sounds.

      Travel
      This position requires minimal travel, usually limited to the tri-state area.
