- Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure high quality and standards in teaching and learning, and maintain British Council’s position at the forefront of best ELT practices
- Ensure safeguarding and guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas: Child protection, Equal Opportunity and Diversity, Health and safety, Anti-bribery, Information Management
- Contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of the Teaching Centre operation as a Duty Officer and a member of the Academic Management Team.
- Contribute to the development of lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by enhancing students’ understanding of contemporary UK.
- Plan, prepare and deliver up to 25 hours a week of high-quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups; considering individual needs, integrating learning technologies into everyday classroom practice to enhance language learning, and completing teaching related duties to specified standards.
- 12.5 hours of teaching is guaranteed through-out the academic year and any excess teaching hours up to 25 hours will be paid at an hourly paid rate as overtime.
- The teacher needs to give availability to teach up to 25 hours a week.
- The working week will be up to five working days with a two-consecutive day weekend. Teaching hours may include standby and cover.
- It is likely that Saturday and Sunday will be working days and teaching will be in the afternoons and evenings. This may change due to customer demand.
- Teaching will include both adult and young learners. Teaching may include off-site professional training courses.
- Ensuring teaching meets our teaching quality standards and organisational expectations.
- Maintaining good relationships with customers and colleagues.
- Supporting the teaching centre’s activities.
- Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students’ performance throughout our courses and actively promote learner autonomy.
- Actively work as a member of the teaching team to contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials, and teaching centre activities, to meet students’ needs.
- Complete teaching related administrative tasks to specified standards
- Support local marketing and promotional strategy, and assist the teaching centre team in delivering excellent customer service
- CELTA + post qualification experience with the British Council
- Right to work in Sri Lanka (Sri Lankan citizen or holder of a valid residence work visa)
