      The Patent Attorney plays a crucial role in protecting Panduit’s intellectual property portfolio. This position provides legal guidance on domestic and foreign patent issues, supporting innovation within engineering and research and development. The Patent Attorney is responsible for patent procurement, product clearance, and enforcement strategies. Additionally, this role assists outside counsel with litigation and addresses other legal matters as needed.

      What You Will Do

      • Patent Procurement: Collaborate with engineering and R&D to assess patentability, prepare, file, and prosecute domestic and international patents, and oversee patent drawings.
      • Product Clearance: Conduct clearance searches, analyze potential infringements, draft and review non-infringement and invalidity opinions, and track competitor patents.
      • Patent Enforcement and Defense: Investigate potential infringements, assist in responding to allegations, provide litigation support, and coordinate with external counsel.
      • Other Legal Responsibilities: Offer guidance on IP-related agreements, including non-disclosure, joint development, and licensing contracts. Ensure compliance with policies while addressing broader legal matters.

      What You Will Bring

      • Required Degree: Juris Doctor (JD), plus a Bachelor's degree in a technical field (mechanical or electrical engineering preferred).
      • Certifications: Admitted to practice law in Illinois and registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
      • Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of relevant legal experience in intellectual property and patent law.
      • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
      • Customer service mindset, actively listening to and understanding internal and external client needs to provide effective solutions.
      • Ability to work across multiple levels of the organization, facilitating business goals through intellectual property strategies.
      • Exceptional time management, prioritization, and organizational abilities to handle complex projects efficiently.
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to leverage legal research tools effectively

      Compensation: The expected annual base salary range for this role is $145,000-$170,000. This role qualifies for an incentive plan based on individual and company performance. Please note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
