      Job summary

      An opportunity has arisen within the Pathology Stores Team based cross site between Old Medical School at Leeds General Infirmary and Centre for Laboratory Medicine at St James Hospital.

      We are seeking a hard working, friendly individual with strong communication skills to work as part of this small team. This is a varied role for an individual who is self motivated and able to organise time efficiently to complete a range of tasks.

      The Pathology Stores Team supports the Leeds Pathology Service by receiving and safe storage of goods, disposal of waste (clinical and domestic) generated by the pathology laboratories and the picking and packaging of supplies for GPs and Wards.

      The post holder must be capable of physical effort and will be required to frequently lift heavy and awkward loads (up to 15kg). Rotation and training around all tasks of the role will be given.

      The hours of work are 37.5 per week, which are currently between 07:30 - 16:00, Monday to Friday. Weekend and Bank Holiday working may be required subject to operational needs.

      Main duties of the job

      - Receipt, storage & distribution of consumables and supplies for LTHT Pathology This may require moving and handling of heavy and bulky items.

      - Stock rotation of deliveries

      - Picking, packing and despatch of consumables against authorised stock requisitions e.g ward or GP supplies

      - Advise Procurement Team on low or high stock levels to ensure continuity of service

      - Resolve immediate problems with stock discrepancies and out of stock consumables, liaising with colleagues, wards and suppliers where necessary

      - Responsible for ensuring stock is stored as per storage and security requirements (e.g dry, fridge or freezer) and in timely manor

      - Complete and update stock control systems as requested

      - Ensure Laboratory coats are packed for laundry and clean coats put away on return from laundry

      - Prioritising work to meet deadlines, especially during busy periods.

      - Work with stores team to ensure all daily duties are completed as per standard work duties for each day

      - Ensure all work areas are clean and tidy and ensure stock is stored safely so as not to present a hazard to staff

      - Conform to all Health and Safety requirements and Risk assessment for stores, autoclaving and waste disposal

      - Autoclave laboratory waste as per departmental SOPs and in accordance with infectious waste management.

      - Wash and clean autoclave tins so that they can be re-used.

      - Customer care duties, including dealing with telephone enquiries

      The post will move to the purpose built Centre for Laboratory Medicine Facility at St James in 2025, housing state of the art equipment and facilities.

      The post will co-ordinate and organise the receipt, storage & distribution of consumables and supplies for LTHT Pathology This may require moving and handling of heavy and bulky items.

      In conjunction with Procurement Team ensure stock levels are maintained to appropriate levels to ensure continuity of service.

      Be responsible for the collection of clinical waste from laboratory areas, and making this safe ready for disposal.

      Ensure safe and efficient disposal of clinical waste via approved waste disposal routes (e.g clinical / domestic waste bins)

      Ensure safe and efficient disposal of clinical waste through autoclaving

      Ensure correct, safe, efficient use and maintenance of equipment, informing senior staff of issues

      Support the removal or relocation of bulky items ie Gas Cylinders, desks etc

      Maintain links with internal and external departmental colleagues and users to ensure efficient service delivery.

      The post is based in the Old Medical School; however, the post holder may be required to support other stores and departments within LTHT. The post holder will be required to work weekends and Bank Holidays as necessary due to specific service requirements.

These will be predominantly concerned with stock control, receipt and distribution of consumables including sample containers to GP Practices, safe disposal of clinical waste and sorting of clinical samples. There will be elements of customer services, administrative and good housekeeping duties.
