      Summary



      Service excellence and a culture of kindness are priorities for Sheridan Memorial Hospital. The Patient Accounts Manager must have strong leadership and managerial skills to directly oversee the staff supervision and daily operations of the Patient Account department. The Patient Account Manager works in a strong team environment to provide exceptional customer service on all levels. This manager oversees patient account departments for the hospital and clinics, and financial clearance, including but not limited to pre-registration and insurance verification. The vision of the Patient Account department is to create a patient centered experience that focuses on meeting patient’s needs at the moment they are realized to stay in the forefront.



      Essential Job Functions


      • Develop the department’s operational plan and direct/support staff in execution of departmental goals.

      • Develops, implements, and maintain the annual operating budget, ensuring that operations are managed within established guidelines

      • Ensure accuracy of patient data and fiscal information by reviewing audits and other reports of patient data and fiscal information to provide recommendations for continual process improvement.

      • Stays current with changes imposed by Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial Insurances as well as Federal and State laws affecting health care and assisting hospital staff in utilizing the clearinghouse and 3M; recommends process improvements or policy changes accordingly as appropriate.

      • Offers guidance to employees related to Point-of-Service collection activity and helping to educate patient. Ensures timely education of staff as to how to identify patient liability, collect, and record payments in appropriate system. Supervises billing and collection activity and serves as a resource person for billing matters and for issues involving reimbursement from third party payers.

      • Supervises and evaluates staff within the Patient Accounts Department.

      • Demonstrates the ability to direct and coordinate the patient accounting function in order to consistently produce accurate bills that are paid in a timely manner.

      • Monitors activities continually with collection agencies, insurance companies, admitting, and health information.

      • Monitors daily the GL Default Error Report in Cerner Revenue Cycle, correct transactions as needed at the encounter level and makes appropriate changes to the Cerner GL Set up as necessary.

      • Reviews and approves refunds.

      • Effectively utilizes and understands Cerner Revenue Cycle software in order to realize its optimal potential and to be able to evaluate and answer staff member questions regarding the mechanics of the system.

      • Coordinates with other departments in review of appeals for payment, gathering added documentation to support pursuit of an appeal as needed. Works effectively with auditors as required; demonstrates cooperation and responsiveness.

      • Has good working knowledge of APCs, DRGs, CPT, HCPCS, ICD-9-CM, ICD-10 and other coding classification systems and their impact on billing processes.

      • Maintains a current awareness of third-party reimbursement regulations and contractual arrangements with third party payors.

      • Holds staffing levels in the billing/collection areas at a functional minimum. Oversees staff productivity and efficiency.

      • Oversees and monitors patient accounts referred to outside collection agencies for the collection of outstanding patient account balances.

      • Identify areas of opportunity through education and formal training of the team.

      • Participates in ongoing quality monitoring, policy review, and process improvement activities.

      • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional societies.

      • Provides information and ideas regarding strategy, operational initiatives, and policies to Senior Leadership. Demonstrates experience with billing.

      • Demonstrates experience developing and implementing team and process improvements.

      POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

      Education / Experience / License and Certifications


      • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience, preferred.

      • Minimum of 3 years of related experience, preferred.

      • Associates degree business or equivalent related experience, required; BA Bachelor degree preferred. Minimum of two years of experience leading a team in a Health Care environment, required.
