- Perform EKGs with accuracy and in a timely manner.
- Collect and label diagnostic specimens for laboratory processing following proper protocols.
- Apply and secure splints or immobilizers to stabilize extremities as directed by a licensed provider.
- Provide wound care, dressing changes, and other basic clinical interventions as trained and directed.
- Safely lift, reposition, and transport patients using proper body mechanics and equipment.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including hygiene, ambulation, and nutritional support.
- Respond promptly to call bells and patient needs, ensuring a high standard of care and service.
- Work closely with nurses, physicians, and other staff to coordinate and prioritize patient care.
- Support emergency care procedures by preparing equipment, supplies, and patient areas.
- Complete clerical functions such as chart documentation, managing patient records, and facilitating communication within the department.
- Assist with tracking supplies and maintaining an organized work environment.
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
- Observe psychiatric patients to ensure their safety and well-being in accordance with established protocols.
- Complete required training, including AVADE training, within six months of employment.
- Contribute to a positive and safe environment by demonstrating professionalism and effective communication.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Medical Assistant or have begun clinical rotations within a Registered Nursing (RN) program.
- Current CPR certification required.
- AVADE training (or equivalent workplace violence prevention training) must be completed within six months of employment.
Position Summary
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) in the Emergency Department provides compassionate, hands-on care to patients in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. The PCT works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to assist with direct patient care, ensure efficient operations, and support patient safety and comfort. Key responsibilities include performing EKGs, collecting blood samples, splinting extremities, and assisting with the safe lifting and transport of patients. The PCT also provides clerical support as needed to maintain smooth departmental workflow.

Qualifications
Minimum Education:
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Years of Experience (Amount, Type and Variation):Required:
Previous hospital experience as a nursing assistant, EMT or physician office patient care experience.
Preferred:
Phlebotomy experience preferred.

Normal basic patient care equipment, wheelchairs and stretchers. Good interpersonal and communication skills.
