- Interviews patients to obtain accurate demographic and financial information from self-pay and high-risk patients.
- Completes financial applications and screening tools.
- Assists patients with financial applications and payment arrangements.
- Verifies patient employment details and other data collection to assist in completion of applications and screening tools.
- Performs data collection, tracking, and reporting to various agencies governing programs related to hospital financial assistance.
- Documents all patient account correspondence in the appropriate EPIC note fields, designated forms, or required databases.
- Facilitates processing of financial assistance/charity care applications.
- Assist outside agencies/vendors to ensure we have exhausted all other payer sources prior to a charity write off.
- Completes assigned EPIC work queues to determine eligibility for self-pay patients, including calling patients to gather data to determine eligibility for various programs and entering data for reporting and tracking purposes.
- Promptly and courteously assists and provides accurate information to patients regarding their accounts or services face to face, e-mail, fax, regular mail correspondence, or phone call.
- Adheres to all applicable laws, regulations, company policies, and established procedures to ensure a safe, compliant, and ethical work environment.
- At least two years of previous work experience in a healthcare setting.
- Previous work experience wiht health insurance guidelines, programs and plans.
- Experience with EPIC preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Compensation
Pay range for new hires: $28.20 to $45.13
Hire-in rates of pay are based upon the relevance of years of experience, education and certifications. Our talent acquisition team will help you understand how your direct experience will be considered.

Job Overview:
Works ,as a liaison between hospital and patient to assist with financial needs. Screens patients and families for Hospital Discounted Care, Colorado Indigent Care Program, Medicaid, and Charity Care.The Patient Financial Counselor will explain financial information, determine patient’s ability to pay, provide education on programs available to assist with healthcare expenses, and assist with the application process. Provides education on patient’s financial obligations to the facility, and follow up with patients and other parties to ensure accuracy and completeness of information.
