- Monitor patient activity and behavior, promptly reporting changes to the RN in accordance with established protocols.
- Assist patients with daily activities, including feeding, bathing, toileting, and ambulating.
- Offer companionship and engage patients in enjoyable activities such as reading, card games, or conversation.
- Ensure the patient’s comfort and dignity while maintaining a safe environment.
- Adhere to the philosophy, mission, and values of Henry Ford Health System in all interactions and tasks.
- Operate monitoring equipment (if assigned to monitor role) and alert nursing staff of any notable changes or concerns.
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients using a microphone and headset.
- Ability to communicate with hospital staff and respond quickly to patient changes.
- Ability to use discretion and courtesy when working with patients, visitors, and staff.
- Basic computer operation skills. Efficiency in multitasking. Ability to prioritize simultaneous situations.

The Patient Safety Assistant (PSA) plays a vital role in supporting the well-being and safety of patients within the Henry Ford Health System. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the PSA is responsible for ensuring a safe environment and providing one-on-one observation and support to patients.
