      GENERAL SUMMARY:

      Supports department leadership by coordinating the day-to-day shift activities of Patient Transport Services. Role will include general cleaning, floor maintenance and special project activities. This position reports to the Supervisor, Patient Transportation or the Supervisor, EVS & Patient Transport.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

      1. Coordinates shift activities to include - producing daily staffing roster, making necessary adjustments to staff assignments, monitoring Transport Tracker and flexing staffing resources as appropriate. Assists supervisor in developing monthly employee schedules.

      2. Performs patient transport duties.

      3. Works with supervisor to monitor safe transport of patients, use of equipment and performance issues. Assists in training of staff to include educational mandatories, annual department training and new employee orientation.

      4. Participates in hospital committees (Green Team, Safety Committee) and in the implementation of special programs/projects.

      5. Utilizes the Beaumont Standards and effective communication skills to incorporate specific age, cultural or developmental needs.

      6. Responds to patient or family concerns in the absence of a supervisor.

      STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

      A. Education / Training: Requires a level of knowledge normally acquired through the completion of a high school diploma or GED.

      B. Work Experience: More than one year of Patient Transportation experience required. Leadership experience strongly preferred.

      C. Certification, Licensure, Registration: Successful completion of the Healthcare Provider Course is required.

      D. Other Qualifications:

      · Understands and demonstrates safe lifting and transport techniques.

      · Knows and practices Universal Precautions as appropriate.

      · Requires demonstrated communication skills to interact with courtesy, tact, empathy and professionalism in daily interaction with patients, their families, clinical licensed and non-licensed staff, physicians and management.

      · Ability to understand and follow directions, ability to comply with HIPAA confidentiality requirements.

      · Requires the ability to recognize if the patient is experiencing stress or other issues during transport and immediately seek assistance.

      · Requires the ability to organize and prioritize transports and other work.

      · Requires basic keyboarding skills and demonstrated familiarity with Microsoft Office software (MS Word), ability to become familiar with hospital information.

      · Excellent organization skills, written and oral communication skills.

      · Excellent human relation/leadership skills.

      · Knowledge and ability to appropriately apply hospital procedures, practices and Beaumont Standards.

      · Computer knowledge and willingness to learn hospital and department computer programs: MS Outlook eMail, eTime and Transport Tracker.

      · Leadership training/education. Ability to communicate, direct and motivate and diverse employees.
