Prepares, balances, and finalizes payroll. This includes pulling hours from payroll system, manually entering batches for non-time clock programs/locations, processing payroll export interface, correcting errors, and balancing edits with open report. Prints/prepares/distributes checks and vouchers and explains options to those without direct deposit.

Troubleshoots errors; processes adjustments, responds to payroll inquiries in a timely fashion; maintains sensitivity to pay issues, and exhibits strict confidentiality with regard to employee information at all times. Actively communicates with association supervisors to minimize potential for payroll errors and provides bi-weekly communication about position listings.

Reconciles payroll tax and calculates non-benefit related employee deductions (child support, garnishments, United Way, legal services, credit unions); requests payments via AP to appropriate agencies/institutions; processes various invoices and assists with billing if needed.

Calculates and processes federal, state, and local/city tax payments; and bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end tax reporting.

Creates and distributes payroll reports; imports reports to the accounting system and communicates effectively across departments. Trains staff, as needed, on payroll process.

Reconciles ACH and Check submissions between HRIS system, Accounting Software, and Bank, reporting to Controller as requested.

Assists in audit and internal year-end reconciliation process, report filings, and W-2 preparations.

Performs accounting related functions which may include preparing the check deposit for the Accounting Dept. and Annual Campaign Manager to review and post, chargeoffs, reconciliations and entries and reporting on and maintaining credit card system.

Adheres to all policies and procedures related to abuse risk management, while reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors. Complies with all procedures related to supervision of you and follows the YMCA’s training and reporting requirements.

Bachelors degree in accounting or related field and at least two years related experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates ability to perform the above duties.

Proficiency with MS Office programs (Word & Excel); data base/information systems (Kronos preferred), and ability to utilize web-based systems required.

YMCA Team Leader Certification; if not certified, must obtain certification within 1 year.

Team leader certification requires: Principles and Practices; Introduction to Volunteerism; Introduction to Leading Others; Introduction to Fiscal Management; Leadership competency assessment; Team Leader Certification Test.

The YMCA of Central Ohio is hiring a Payroll Specialist to manage the full cycle of payroll processing for staff across multiple locations. This role is responsible for preparing and balancing payroll, troubleshooting errors, handling employee inquiries, and ensuring compliance with tax and reporting requirements. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail- oriented, and comfortable working with payroll systems and financial reports. Strong communication and problem- solving skills are essential, as this position collaborates closely with supervisors and departments to ensure accuracy and timeliness. The Payroll Specialist also supports reconciliations, audits, and helps train staff on payroll processes. This is a great opportunity to play a key role in supporting the day- to- day operations of a mission- driven organization.
