      The mission of Vertex-PA is to provide strategic financial and management services to charter schools in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.       Vertex-PA is looking to hire a full-time Payroll Specialist. As the Payroll Specialist, you will bolster our mission to support innovative and high-quality schools so that educators can focus on educating. This position reports to the Director of Payroll Services.

      Payroll Specialist responsibilities include:

      • Maintaining the payroll system for a given client and processing paychecks accurately and timely according to the client’s pay schedule.

      • Consolidating timesheet information and entering data into a client’s preferred payroll database, including any stipend or bonus pay; ensuring deduction accuracy (health, retirement, garnishment), etc.

      • Developing a customer service-focused relationship with a client’s HR leader and supporting in the areas of compensation, taxes, and benefit deductions.

      • Working closely with the client’s Account Manager from the Vertex-PA team to ensure that all pay data is accurate before final submission.

      • Maintaining employee data (new hires, changes, and terminations) in the payroll database.

      • Submitting biweekly or monthly retirement contributions and/or Health Savings Account (HSA) deductions on behalf of the client’s employees.

      • Adjusting returning employees’ salaries once yearly for 12-month staff and once yearly for 10-month staff.

      • Providing Account Managers or other team members with specific, one-off reports, as requested.

      Requirements and skills:

      • Wonderful attention to detail.

      • Handle sensitive and confidential information.

      • Excellent customer service skills.

      • Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills.

      • Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization abilities.

      • Experience in payroll processing preferred but not necessary (training will be available).

      • Strong PC knowledge including proficiency in Excel.

      • Willingness to understand and learn all aspects of payroll laws and regulations.
