      The position of Pee Dee Region Pharmacist is located at the SCDPH Pee Dee Region Pharmacy. The Pee Dee Region Pharmacy is located at the Conway Health Department, 1931 Industrial Park Road, Conway, SC 29526.

      The Pee Dee Region Pharmacist works under the supervision of the DPH Pharmacy Director within the Bureau of Clinical Services/Pharmacy Section. The employee operates with considerable independence and discretion at the Pee Dee Region Pharmacy and serves as the DPH region’s Pharmacist-In-Charge.

      Description:

      Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

      • Processes all medication orders for the purpose of providing pharmaceuticals for DPH public health clinics in compliance with SC Board of Pharmacy policies, guidelines, protocols, state and federal pharmacy-related regulations, and DPH policies. Maintains current and complete record keeping systems of pharmacy processes. Performs pharmacy administrative functions for the Pee Dee Region Pharmacy. Monitors to ensure the integrity of the 340B Drug Program at the DPH region level. Serves as pharmaceutical consultant with other health care professionals and provides pharmacy-related training for region staff.
      • Oversees ordering, storage, and distribution of pharmaceuticals and related products in the region. Ensures drugs dispensed to DPH clinics are packaged in appropriate delivery containers and stored appropriately. Maintains adequate drug inventories and monitors drug utilization patterns in the clinics.
      • Provides dispensing and distribution duties for the DPH Pharmacy Services Component of Opioid Overdose Prevention Initiatives. Maintains a working knowledge of the Overdose Prevention Act and Board requirements, protocols, policies to ensure proper provision of naloxone. Serves as the region's point-of-contact for the distribution of naloxone to the clinics, organizations, and community distributors. Participates in community naloxone distribution events as such opportunities arise.

      State Minimum Requirements: A bachelor's degree in pharmacy or pharmacology or completion of a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree.

      Agency Additional Requirements:

      • Graduate of an accredited college of pharmacy.       • Licensure as a registered pharmacist by the South Carolina Board of Pharmacy. The SC pharmacist license must be current, active, and unencumbered.
      • Work location is the SCDPH Pee Dee Region Pharmacy which is located at the Conway Health Department, 1931 Industrial Park Road, Conway, SC 29526.
      • Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. Attendance other than normal work hours may be required.
      • Valid SC driver's license and good driving record. May be required to use his/her own personal vehicle for travel within state to perform duties.
      • Ability to stand, walk, reach, pull, stoop, bend, and lift and carry a minimum of 35 pounds.
      • Willing and able to participate in disaster preparedness and response activities and hazardous weather and emergency events. This involves being subject to duty and/or being on call on a 24-hour basis.

      Experience as a pharmacist for at least three (3) years. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of pharmacy; state and federal laws and regulations governing pharmacy practice and distribution. Ability to direct the operations of a pharmacy. Knowledge of pharmaceutical principles, practices, equipment, and supplies. Knowledge of inspection and audit procedures. Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret laws, regulations, policies and procedures. Proficient with computers including Microsoft Office programs and pharmacy computer systems. Excellent communication, reporting, writing skills, and the ability to establish strong positive working relationships.

      DRIVING RECORD: If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid driver's license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle, any applicant being considered in the final stages of selection for the position will be required to provide a certified copy of a 10-year driving record.
