      We are looking for a Track Inspector to play a key leadership role within the Rail division.

      The Rio Tinto Rail Network Maintenance team responds to faults and asset failures identified throughout the rail network and executes remediation work to minimise system impact; RNM is accountable for the safe and efficient recovery of faults and incidents associated with Signalling, Track, Civil and Rolling Stock failures that have potential to cause immediate system impact. RNM also conduct primary maintenance activities and inspections based on preventative maintenance tactics for all Track, Signalling and Civil network infrastructure.

      Your duties will include:

      • Responding to network failures as directed by asset health, train control and maintenance stakeholders; investigating asset failure and applying suitable containments to maintain track integrity and enable safe train passage minimising system impact
      • Responding to network failures as directed to undertake scoping and planning tasks; allowing maintenance teams to safely execute the required remediation works to maintain track integrity in accordance with RTIO Code of Practice
      • Liaising and coordinating with key stakeholders such as Train Control, Asset Health, Rail Operations, and maintenance stakeholders during network failures; to minimise system impact and enable safe train passage in accordance with RTIO Code of Practice and HSEQ policies
      • Assisting the maintenance teams and Supervisors with the safe execution of primary maintenance and breakdown repairs across the rail network
      • Preparing defect and maintenance reports to enable appropriate communication and data capture as per RTIO work management practice
      • Maintain a high level of safety awareness and comply with all RTIO Company Policies and procedures
      • Actively contribute to continuous improvement projects – increasing safety whilst reducing risk & cost
      • Utilize SAP to ensure that maintenance tasks are recorded, assigned correctly, and completed to the relevant standard / specification

      What you’ll bring

      • Proficient Computer Systems and Software Skills
      • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
      • Problem solving skills
      • SAP Experience
      • Prior experience as a Perway Patroller or Track Inspector is advantageous
      • Sound knowledge of track measuring and recording equipment
      • Extensive track maintenance experience essential with demonstrated competency leading teams undertaking defect removal, asset replacement and breakdown recovery tasks
      • Certificate III Rail Infrastructure highly regarded but not essential
      • A Manual C Class Australian Drivers License essential

      Where you’ll be working

      You will be based in Tom Price at our Rail Facility. Our privately owned and operated rail network is an essential part of our integrated production process and services our 16 mines across the Pilbara via 1,700km of track. With depots located at Tom Price, Cape Lambert and Dampier (7 Mile), each train is operated by a single driver and comprises up to three locomotives and 240 ore cars stretching to approximately 2.7 kilometres in length with over 40 trains operating per day. We are also applying and adapting technology to improve safety and productivity across our rail network.
