  Job Description

  Perception is a key part of Caterpillar's autonomy efforts. We are a small team with the opportunity to make a big impact. As Caterpillar is an established company with thousands of products in mining and construction all around the world, the customer pull for autonomy is clear. We are looking for a perception engineer to join our team of experts in developing cutting-edge autonomous driving systems. As a perception engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and testing algorithms for sensor fusion, object detection, tracking and classification. You will also collaborate with other engineers and researchers to integrate your solutions into our software stack and hardware platform.

  Job Duties

  • Solve challenging perception problems.
  • Design, write, test and review perception software.
  • Write high quality software for your perception algorithms to solve our customers' needs.
  • Collaborate with others when needed and work independently when needed.

  Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or higher in engineering, computer science, robotics, or related field
  • 2+ years' experience working in robotics.
  • Proficient in C++ and Python, and good understanding of software engineering principles
  • Working knowledge of computer vision, machine learning and deep learning techniques and familiarity with lidar, radar, camera sensors

  Top Candidates will also have

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Passion for innovation and problem-solving
  • Experience with ROS, OpenCV, Tensorflow/PyTorch
  • Experience with Agile software development
  • Strong mathematics skills

  Additional Information

  The location for this position is Pittsburgh, PA or San Francisco, CA.

  Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.

  This position may require 10% travel.
