      Department Overview

      The Perioperative Patient Assistant 1 performs routine work in the perioperative and procedural environment to include: decontamination, assembly of peel packs, testing and distribution of instruments, medical equipment, and supplies, cleaning of the physical surroundings and equipment, and transporting patients and materials to assist with patient care in the perioperative and procedural departments.

      Pay Range: $22.50 - $30.45 per hour

      Function/Duties of Position

      Supplies

      • Opening supplies
      • Assisting in set-up, retrieving supplies
      • Retrieving supplies during the case
      • Immediately available outside the OR
      • Getting next case cart and checking to ensure complete
      • Stocking

      Equipment

      • Assisting in set-up
      • Retrieving equipment
      • Cleaning equipment
      • Immediately available outside the OR

      Cleaning the OR Space/ Opening supplies

      • Wiping down equipment, furniture, and OR space
      • Mopping
      • Partnering with a team to achieve an efficient process and meet a turnover target time for completion

      Patient Care Support

      • Helping with patient prep and positioning
      • Assisting the OR team with needs
      • Immediately available inside/outside the OR

      5. Continuous engagement with the surgical team.

      • Must remain immediately available in or just outside the OR suite at all times.

      Perform other job related duties as assigned.

      Required Qualifications

      • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), may include specialized vocational courses.
      • One year work experience in any field.
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
      • Strong customer service orientation.
      • Cooperation with and maintenance of good rapport with nursing staff, ancillary personnel, other departments, patients, and physicians.
      • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly with staff, patients, and visitors.
      • Basic computer skills may be required.
      • Good prioritization and organizational skills.
      • Flexibility, ability to deal effectively with unforeseen request or circumstances during a case.
      • Prompt, efficient and dependable.
      • Maintenance of patient and medical staff confidentiality.
      • Ability to perform the job duties with or without accommodation.

      Preferred Qualifications

      • Completion of (or enrollment in) the Sterile Processing Course; OR
      • Certified Nurse Assistant; OR
      • 1 year job experience in a hospital, clinic, or medical laboratory with exposure to decontamination and cleaning processes; OR
      • Certified registered central service technician (CRCST).

      Additional Details

      Work schedule will need to align with department needs and will required to be flexible to changing department needs. Day shift hours, 5 weekdays per week, no regular weekends. Shift start time between 0630 - 0800, 8 hour days. Potential for on-call, overtime. Ability to perform routine duties with minimal supervision. Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment (PPE) as required per policy.
