      Job summary

      The Day Surgery Service is looking for dynamic, motivated and compassionate Registered Nurse/Operating Department Practitioners ( 2 posts) to join a forward-thinking and developing team working within the Day Surgery Centre (DSC) at Castle Hill Hospital.

      As part of the National Elective Recovery programme the Trust is currently in the process of completing a new Day Surgery Centre, Phase 1 of which has been operational from June 2023 and provides 4 Operating Theatres, Pre-operative Assessment, Recovery and Pre/Post-operative care. On completion, which is anticipated to be the end of 2024, the DSC will increase capacity to 10 Operating Theatres . The specialties that are are currently undertaken in the DSC include; Orthopaedic, Neuro, ENT, Max Fax, Breast and Vascular.

      Although there may be opportunity for staff to rotate through the roles within the DSC these posts will be predominantly based in the Recovery and Pre-operative/Post-operative Care of the Day Surgery patient.

      Although the DSC is currently open Monday to Friday 07:00-19:30, there is move towards 7 day working and increased opening hours. Depending on skill/future development there may also be an on-call commitment.

      Main duties of the job

      You will be primarily working as part of either the DSC Recovery or DSC Pre-operative/Post-operative care team. Delivering care to patients attending for day surgery, from admission through to discharge.

      You should be a motivated, dynamic and caring registered practitioner (either as a nurse or operating department practitioner) who is able to demonstrate a high standard of clinical practice. You must possess excellent communication and team working qualities, with a willingness to learn new skills. You should also thrive on working in a busy environment and be forward thinking and passionate about delivering a high standard of care. We welcome individuals who have an enthusiastic approach to teaching students and junior members of staff.
