- Provide internal and external customer service by responding to inquiries and offering technical guidance related to permits, development standards, city codes, and compliance processes.
- Assist customers in understanding submittal requirements, timelines, fees, and procedures associated with permit and code compliance activities.
- Respond in a timely manner to requests for public records, reports, and other information related to code enforcement and permitting activities.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, community members, and external agencies, fostering a respectful, inclusive, and service-oriented environment.
- Screen, intake, and route permit applications for building, grading, and right-of-way activities; verify completeness of applications in accordance with city procedures.
- Maintain accurate and organized permit records; enter and update data in electronic tracking systems.
- Coordinate permit workflows and timelines with internal departments and external reviewers.
- Generate and prepare related correspondence, reports, forms.
- Support planning staff with project documentation and permit-related compliance tracking.
- Intake code compliance complaints, create and maintain case files, and ensure accurate tracking of investigations and resolutions.
- Research and review public records to identify permit history.
- Assist in the preparation and issuance of code enforcement letters and supporting documentation.
- Provide support in resolving code violations, including field follow-up and documentation as needed.
- Support data tracking and reporting for both permitting and code compliance activities.
- Maintain records and case files in accordance with department procedures and public records requirements.
- Assist in compiling data for departmental reporting, performance metrics, and public information requests.
- Drive City vehicles for site visits and fieldwork related to permit or code compliance activities.
- The position works independently with support from city staff or consultants. No employee supervision is exercised.
- Permit tracking software (e.g., databases, GIS).
- City operations, zoning, compliance procedures, and records management.
- Office software (MS Office Suite) and file preparation for archiving.
- Maps, legal descriptions, and land use documentation.
- Proper interpretation of maps, codes, regulations, standards, specifications, legal descriptions, and various governmental documents.
- Investigative and real property records and research techniques.
- Work effectively under pressure and resolve disputes with often difficult and upset customers.
- Communicate clearly and professionally in writing and speech.
- Handle public inquiries with tact and provide effective customer service.
- Work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet legal deadlines.
- Maintain accurate records, perform basic math, and analyze data.
- Interpret maps, plans, codes, and land use regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards.
- Adapt to flexible assignments, including remote work and occasional evening/weekend meetings.
- Understand Sammamish Municipal Code and all other codes related to code compliance and permitting

This hybrid role combines office duties with occasional fieldwork and requires the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Responsibilities include processing permit applications, maintaining records, assisting with code enforcement activities, and providing accurate information to the public and other departments. The position plays a key role in ensuring efficient service delivery and regulatory compliance across both functional areas.

Customer Service
SUPERVISION EXERCISEDMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by one (1) year of relevant work experience, or any equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide the applicant with the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job.
Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State Driver License and the ability to drive a city-owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
