A leading player in the renewable energy space is seeking an experienced Permitting Manager to join its Development team. This role is critical in guiding large-scale solar and battery storage projects through complex regulatory landscapes across the United States.

      About the Role

As part of the development group, the Permitting Manager will oversee the end-to-end regulatory process required to bring utility-scale clean energy projects to construction. From shaping permitting strategies to working directly with various agencies and stakeholders, this role ensures all environmental and land use approvals are secured efficiently and in compliance with applicable laws. The position reports directly to a senior leader in development and offers flexibility in location, with remote work supported and occasional travel required.

      Key Responsibilities

      • Design and lead regulatory strategy for permitting from site control through to construction readiness.
      • Serve as the main point of contact with permitting bodies at the local, state, and federal levels.
      • Oversee consultant teams, environmental contractors, and legal partners in preparing and submitting required documents.
      • Represent the company at hearings, community meetings, and agency discussions.
      • Support internal coordination across development, legal, and engineering teams to align schedules and requirements.
      • Maintain an organized system for tracking regulatory approvals, compliance obligations, and timelines.
      • Stay current on policy shifts, environmental regulations, and permitting trends that could affect project timelines.
      • Identify and mitigate permitting risks early in the development cycle.

      Ideal Background

      • At least 5 years' experience in permitting and regulatory compliance, preferably in solar, wind, or related energy sectors.
      • Educational background in Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Law, or related field (J.D. or equivalent experience also considered).
      • Solid understanding of permitting frameworks, including NEPA, ESA, Clean Water Act, and CEQA (preferred).
      • Strong experience with environmental review processes, impact analysis, and land use policy.
      • Skilled in engaging with agencies, preparing for public forums, and managing complex regulatory workflows.
      • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail in documentation and compliance tracking.
      • Excellent communicator in both written and verbal formats; able to speak confidently in front of varied audiences.
      • Familiarity with GIS, Smartsheet, or other project tracking systems is a plus.
      • Ability to travel domestically up to 25% as needed for meetings and site visits.

      • Employer-matched retirement plan
      • Generous health coverage, including vision and dental
      • Paid time off and holiday benefits
