      Position Description
      The Geriatric Mental Health Service, Inpatient Services at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking (3) part-time, temporary (12 month) Personal Support Workers in the Geriatric Admission Units, reporting to the Manager and working within the inter-professional team. In this role, you will be supervised by nursing staff to carry out assigned duties, particularly through ensuring a safe environment. The successful candidate will contribute to the organization and optimal function of the units under the direction and supervision of the nursing staff, to promote and support the independence, dignity, social, emotional and cultural well-being of the clients, and to maintain a safe and therapeutic milieu. Specific tasks of the role include the provision of personal support to clients, including assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs); accompanying/escorting clients on and off site for transfers, appointments and programming; maintaining close or continuous observation of clients. You are required to use least restrictive strategies in the prevention of restraint and seclusion, to help maintain safety. In addition, you will be responsible for collecting data, and communicating both verbally and in writing, behavioural observations and clients’ responses to interventions. In this role you will assume an active role in maintaining security of the program and service through your relationships with clients, as well as maintaining security through regulation of the physical environment. You will support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements. In this position, you will also provide support to a dual diagnosis client housed within the Complex Recovery Care Program on a rotational basis. Based on operational needs, you may be reassigned to support this client for up to full-time hours. These positions involve 12 hour shift rotation and weekend work. These position are located at Queen Street site.

      Qualifications
      The successful candidate will have a Personal Support Care Worker Certificate from an accredited community college or educational institute, Grade 12 education or equivalent and will possess current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification and First Aid certification. Knowledge of normal aging processes, mental health and psychiatric work experience (at least one year) with seniors with mental illness and/or addictions and complex medical issues are considered to be assets. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working in or have had recent clinical practicums in mental health, long term care, retirement, or rehabilitation facilities, and/or possess or be in the process of pursuing a diploma or degree in a health field. You must have knowledge of geriatric mental health and addiction and ability to manage responsive behaviour, and crisis prevention and intervention skills. Attention to detail and the ability to work with individuals from diverse ethno-cultural and socio-economic backgrounds are also required. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Candidates must be familiar with ergonomics of safe patient handling. Computer literacy is required. Must be able to work effectively in an inter-professional team, take direction well and work independently. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.

      Salary Range: $21.17 - $26.10 per hour
