      With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

      This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital, 130 SC-252, Anderson, SC 29621.

      As the Pharmacist I, working under the general supervision of the Pharmacy Chief, as a practicing duly licensed pharmacist by the State of South Carolina, you will actively participates in all phases of practice of professional pharmaceutical care in strict compliance with federal and state laws, established accreditation standards, and policies and procedures of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health (SCDMH) and Harris Psychiatric Hospital (HPH) with focus on supporting daily pharmacy dispensing operations and participating in clinical pharmaceutical care activities. You will demonstrate understanding, compassion, and sensitivity to all age groups and psychiatric populations served.

      Responsibilities for this Pharmacist I include but are not limited to:
      • Provides support functions for daily pharmacy dispensing operations and participates in clinical pharmaceutical care services for patients of SCDMH.
      • Processes all medication orders authorized by a licensed prescriber for the purpose of providing medications to the patients of SCDMH.
      • Consults with and advises the medical staff with information on drugs, such as warnings issued on drugs, incompatibility of drugs or contraindications of drugs or other pharmaceuticals. Provides drug information to and maintains a working rapport with the medical staff, nursing staff, and other personnel within the facility and the South Carolina Department of Mental Health.
      • Participates in and supports clinical pharmaceutical care activities, educational programs, committee functions, quality improvement activities, all mandatory classes, and demonstrates knowledge acquired through these functions. Also participates in annual competency training and assessment ensuring that all specific age group's pharmaceutical care needs are adequately met. Maintains compliance as appropriate with SCDMH and HPH Pharmacy Policies and Procedures. Includes Cultural end Population-Specific Compliance, Corporate and HIPPA Compliance, Harassment-Free Workplace, Time and Attendance Policies.
      • Provides ongoing drug therapy monitoring of patients that SCDMH serves to include drug therapy evaluations, consultations with other health care professionals, detection of drug interactions and allergies, dose adjustments, adverse drug reaction reporting, and medication error reporting.
      • Participates in record keeping and inventory management to ensure accurate accountability and supplies of pharmaceutical products including controlled substances and emergency kits.
      • Must be familiar with, understand, and comply with all policies and procedures affecting the scope of responsibility as compiled in HPH's policy and procedure directives and the pharmacy department's policy and procedure directives. Maintains clinical competency by mastering required mandatory and non-mandatory in-services or training, including MAPS, CPR, and Pathlore.
      • Serves on committees of the hospital and the Department of Mental Health as assigned by the Pharmacy Chief.
      A bachelor's degree in pharmacy or pharmacology or completion of a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD). Must be registered as a licensed pharmacist in South Carolina by the South Carolina Board of Pharmacy. Doctor of Pharmacy and 2 years of experience as a pharmacist in a hospital setting.As the selected candidate you must have considerable knowledge of pharmaceutical principles and practices. Skills in analyzing drug treatment profiles and therapeutic drug monitoring. Ability to communicate to others the kinds, uses, and potential effects of drugs. Musts demonstrate knowledge in the area of reasonable drug dosage for the appropriate age group and that drugs are chemically and physiologically compatible as prescribed. Working knowledge of state and federal laws regulating pharmacy and the use of controlled substances. Ability to lift/carry/push up to fifty (50) pounds, may be required to lift more during times of emergencies. Ability to stand, walk, reach, pull, push, stoop, bend and climb a ladder. Must have manual dexterity. Able to perform CPR and MAPS.
