BS in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy.
Five (5) years of experience working as a pharmacist in a retail or hospital setting
Certification as a licensed Registered Pharmacist by the State of Arkansas, or eligible for licensure by the State of Arkansas
Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a Pharm.D.
Advanced degree – (MS, MBA, MHA, MPA, etc.) AND/OR Completion of a general or administrative ASHP-accredited residency
P rior supervisory or personnel management experience
Board certification or equivalent accredited certification/credentials in a related field
Demonstrates excellent knowledge of pharmacy distribution systems
Displays sound analytical thinking in complex situations
Displays professionalism in accepting and sharing responsibility for meeting Pharmacy and Therapeutics Service Line goals
Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Shows leadership as defined by UAMS Leadership Competencies
Will serve in a supervisory role
Serves as the primary point of contact for identification, management, and mitigation of acute care drug shortages
Frequently analyze and report data to ensure GPO contract compliance and monitor price and utilization inflation for inpatient drugs
Works with the Director of Pharmacy to optimize medication inventory and reduce overall inpatient drug expense
Prepares medications for dispensing by reviewing and interpreting prescriber’s orders and detecting appropriateness of therapy, medication interactions, allergies, and other vital safety prescribing information
Verifies prescriber’s orders once assessed and deemed appropriate/safe
Communicates with providers for clarification and correction of orders, labs, etc. as needed
Monitors and evaluates the work of staff and takes corrective action when necessary
Establishes, maintains, revises and implements pharmacy procedures, work standards, and quality control measures within the general framework of pharmacy and hospital procedures.
Ensure employees, including themselves, maintain all pharmacy protocols and procedures
Lead staff members by assigning work tasks, supervising, evaluating, hiring, training, and scheduling for employees
Supervises staff in the provision of expert information and consultation on drugs and drug usage in a dispensing, clinical or compounding setting
Manages and maintains pharmacy workflow systems
Participates in planning and implementing automation/technology systems
Participates in interviews and selection of professional and other pharmacy personnel for hire
Supervises and directs onboarding, orientation, training, and development of employees in area of responsibility
Performs evaluations and issues coaching and counseling to employees in area of responsibility
Assists and advises on action to promote, terminate, discipline, appoint, retain, and other personnel matters
Provides first line administrative and technical supervision to staff as it relates to daily operations
Demonstrates professional behavior and mutual respect toward all employees, colleagues, patients, and guests
Coordinates projects to attain departmental goals or optimize workflow
Develops processes to optimize efficiency, safety, and related workflow/workload
Develops practices to improve work processes, enhance guest satisfaction and reduce wastes and costs.
Assist with the review and evaluation of applicable federal, state, and enforceable regulations/standards including USP, Joint Commission, FDA, OSHA, etc., and assist in establishes workflows to ensure compliance in area of responsibility
Maintains knowledge of current industry best practices in pharmacy operations
Participates in the development, review, and implementation of applicable policies and procedures in area of responsibility
Functions as the point-person in the preparation of and response to regulatory and accreditation site visits, surveys, and inspections in area of responsibility
Participates in Safety Huddle as assigned
Serve as a resource to pharmacists, technicians, medical, and nursing staff
Provides timely and accurate medication information when requested
Ensures staff receives necessary initial and continuous training for relevant policies, procedures, regulations, software, equipment, medications, etc.
Assist with developing educational materials and in-services for staff development purposes
Assist with precepting introductory and advanced pharmacy practice rotations
Assist with precepting residents on the longitudinal staffing component within the residency program
Work to provide excellent pharmacy services to assists in achieving departmental goals and ultimately the institution’s vision and mission
Educating current and future health professionals and the public
Perform other duties as assigned.

A Pharmacist III will supervise, direct, coordinate and provide first line technical functions for our front-line personnel including pharmacists, technicians, volunteers, and students. The person in this position is considered an operational supervisor of the pharmacy and handles the day-to-day operation of the pharmacy stockroom. Interacts with healthcare staff outside of pharmacy and pharmacy vendors to ensure good workflow and working relationships. Serves as the primary point of contact for acute care drug shortages and works closely with the Director of Pharmacy – Business Operations to optimize inventory, ensure contract compliance, and manage inpatient drug expense. Pharmacist III may work online based on department need to help with day-to-day dispensing functions, tasks and job duties to provide timely and efficient patient services. They will assist with maintaining, changing, and implementing new workflows, technology/automation, and process improvement projects. They provide leadership and assistance for developing appropriate training, education, and competencies for employees and rotation students. This position will promote staff engagement and great customer service. They will also represent the department by serving on committees and attending meetings, other duties as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy.
