Position Summary Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children Providing compassionate care to the children, teenagers and young adults of Central Florida for more than 30 years, Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children is located on the downtown Orlando campus and includes 156 licensed beds for specialized care for children as well as the Bert Martin’s Champions for Children Emergency Department & Trauma Center, offering trauma care for children as the pediatric site of the Orlando Health ORMC Level One Trauma Center. State-of-the-art pediatric services are provided by a comprehensive staff that includes pediatric subspecialty physicians and a nursing team that is “Magnet” recognized for nursing excellence and high-quality patient care. The hospital also has earned national recognition for 12 consecutive years as a “Best Children’s Hospitals” by U.S. News & World Report and was included, together with Orlando Health ORMC, in the IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals® list for 2021. Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children Pharmacy is seeking Pharmacy Support Assistant. The Pharmacy Support Assistant must be highly motivated individual with no previous pharmacy technician experience interested in training to be a pharmacy technician on the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children pharmacy team. The individual hired into this role will be trained as a pharmacy support assistant (see full PSA job description below) and then will participate in the department's pharmacy technician training program. Following program completion (typically completed over 8-10 weeks) the individual will be eligible to apply for pharmacy technician licensure with the Florida Board of Pharmacy and will transition into a pharmacy technician role on our team. The pharmacy technician training program consists of both didactic and experiential, hands-on, comprehensive training to become a pharmacy technician. PSA responsibilities and the technician training program coursework will take place Monday through Friday during the 8-10 week training period. Following course completion and transition to the pharmacy technician position, the applicant will be expected to staff on a variable shift schedule, including an every other weekend and rotating holiday staffing responsibility. Responsibilities Essential Functions Pre-packs any bulk items into unit dose, and maintaining pre-packing area clean and organized. Assists with daily inventory of all medication and supplies as assigned. Assists with filling any unit stock requisition. Monitors all inventory for outdated material. Keeps patient cassettes and medications storage bins clean. Keeps compounding equipment clean and organized such that area is compliant with Chapter 795 standards. Keeps IV Room clean, organized and stocked such that it is compliant with Chapter 797 standards. Transports all medications and IVs including controlled substances and chemotherapy to all nursing units, other departments and outpatient clinics in a timely manner as assigned. Performs Unit Inspections in a timely manner as assigned. Performs medication refrigerator/freezer temperature monitoring as assigned. Understands safety, emergency and risk management procedures. Demonstrates an understanding of the basic computer system related to the position. Operates the equipment required for pharmacy procedures, consistent with operating instructions, safety regulations and policy and procedures. Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. Other Related Functions Establishes and maintains an open communication process throughout the corporation that reaches patients, visitors, families, physicians and team members such that each feels that they are treated special each time they encounter Orlando Health. Maintains productivity and volume standards established for daily job assignment. Qualifications Education/Training High School diploma or equivalent. Successfully completion of the in-house Pharmacy Support Assistant entry-level training program associated with job description. Must be able to speak, read, and understand Basic English.
