Job summary
37.5 Hours Per Week.
We are looking to recruit a Band 4 Pharmacy Technician to support medicines management for service users and the wider multidisciplinary team here at South West Yorkshire NHS Foundation Trust.
Our trust offers mental health, community and learning disability services as well as providing a pharmacy service to two rehabilitation wards and a hospice.
We are a small pharmacy team, based at Kendray Hospital Barnsley. You will be expected to work effectively and efficiently as part of a team as well as independently. Travelling across the locality, with some days working at Fieldhead Hospital, Wakefield, to maintain competencies.
The successful candidate must be enthusiastic, self-motivated with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you should also be able to prioritise your own workload.
Applicants must hold a BTEC level 3 in Pharmaceutical Science/NVQ3 in pharmacy services or equivalent pharmacy qualification. You MUST be registered with the GPhC and be willing to undertake internal competency-based training as part of the role.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work with other professionals to provide a comprehensive pharmacy technical service to inpatient and community settings trust wide.
This includes managing, ordering, and maintaining stock levels, undertaking medicines reconciliation on all newly admitted patients, ordering medicines using the electronic prescribing system (EPMA), participating in discharge facilitation, and ensuring all work-based validations are up to date.
Part of the role will include assessing compliance with the key safety standards for medicines which have been identified from the trusts medicine code, pharmacy standard operating procedures, Care Quality Commission and NHS England Patient Safety recommendations on ALL in-patient wards and community settings.
Excellent communication skills are essential to this role as the job involves liaising patients, carers, ward staff and medics as well as GP practices, community pharmacies and other NHS Trusts/organisations.
