Job summary
Balmoral Surgery is a 12,300 patient training Practice in Deal. We have a vacancy for a Qualified Pharmacy Technician to support and assist the Practice prescribers which they find invaluable. You will work alongside our present Pharmacy Technician.
The hours will be 30 per week worked over 5 weekdays and will be as follows:
Mon 0830-1430
Tues 0830- 1330 & 1430-1630
Wed 1200-1600
Thurs 0830-1330 & 1430-1630
Fri 0830-1430
The Pharmacy Technician should be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)and meet the specific qualification and training requirements as specified by the GPhC criteria to register as a Pharmacy Technician
Main duties of the job
This role for a Pharmacy Technician is to work alongside our current Pharmacy Technician. The Pharmacy Technicians provide vital support for the prescribers in the Practice and this allows more time for medication-related audit and review of discharge and out patient letters to update medication alterations to patient records etc.

Job responsibilities
Acting as triage and support for repeat medicines queries
To undertake medication-related audit
Support in clinical guidance around specialist only, unlicensed and not recommended drugs
Review high cost items
Review high quantity dressing requests
Review discharge notifications that have medication alteration and update records accordingly
Supporting prescribing clerks and identifying training needs
Dealing with out of stock queries
Dealing with medicines related complaints
Where possible dealing with difficult prescriptions that need an action by the GP
To work on the Medicines Optimisation Scheme annually and ensure the Practice meets the agreed targets
1. Communication and Relationship Skills
- Build relationships with a range of prescribers and pharmacy professionals including independent contractors.
- Communicate with patients and carers who have a limited understanding of medicines.
2. Knowledge, Training and Experience
- Pharmacy technician or dispensers qualification or previous experience preferred.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Previous experience in a medicines orientated environment.
- Computer literacy knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint and Clinical systems e.g. Emis.
- Good understanding of issues affecting primary care prescribing.
- Good understanding of issues affecting medicines adherence
- Good understanding of the common medicines prescribed for long term conditions in primary care.
- Good at practical problem solving.
- Ability to work and integrate into GP practice & multidisciplinary teams.
3. Analytical and Judgement Skills
- Development of best practice to inform and challenge prescribing behaviours in all prescribers and improve quality and patient outcomes.
- Interpretation of prescribing data and clinical system patient records.
- Ability to assess the patient or carers understanding of taking medicines.
- Able to make assessment of the interventions required to improve medicines adherence.
4. Planning and Organisational Skills
- Plan and manage own work programme within Practice working day.
- Able to manage concurrent projects and conflicting priorities.
- Able to maintain records for patients reviewed

- Standard keyboard skills required for the job.
6. Responsibility for Patient/Client Care
- Support the provision of advice on prescribing to all prescribers.
- Support the provision of advice to patients on medication as required.
