Your Opportunity:
Practicing within their full scope, the Pharmacy Technician performs all aspects of drug distribution to provide for the effective daily operation of all departmental services and programs leading to safe and effective patient care. The University of Alberta Hospital Pharmacy is a 24/7 Pharmacy with shifts around the clock. Core duties may include but are not limited to: Sterile and non-sterile preparation and final product checking of sterile and non-sterile products, individual patient prescriptions, repackaging and ward stock. Providing guidance to and assisting with the training and orientation of staff and students. Providing clinical support through obtaining information to facilitate medication reconciliation activities and clarifies discrepancies and/or collects and organizes information to support the provision of direct patient care. Building interactive relationships with all members of the healthcare team including communicating with nursing staff to clarify orders and requests, triaging drug information questions and distribution issues. Maintaining a high standard of performance through completion of internal validation programs that assess proficiency in identified tasks such as aseptic technique, and final product checking. Participating in special projects and programs as assigned. Maintaining department records, statistics and preparing reports as required.
Description:
As a Pharmacy Technician I, you will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. You will receive and triage medication orders, compound and repackage medication and prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products.
Completion of a CCAPP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacy Technician.
Additional Required Qualifications:Demonstrated communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to work in teams. Demonstrated computer or word processing skills. Committed to continual personal quality improvement and lifelong learning. Prior hospital experience with a variety of responsibilities including but not limited to computer and keyboarding skills and sterile compounding. At least two years of recent experience within hospital pharmacy. At least two years’ experience and certification in non-sterile compounding. At least two years’ experience and recent certification in sterile compounding. At least two years’ experience with unit dose drug distribution.
Preferred Qualifications:At least two years’ experience and recent certification preparing oncology products. Previous experience in a Clinical Support Technician Role. Membership with a pharmacy professional organization
