      Duties


      • Acquire prescriptions for pharmaceuticals to disburse medications to patients.
      • Ascertain accuracy of prescription to identify medication.
      • Adhere to pharmacy operating standards when dispensing medication.
      • Ensure accuracy of prescription dosage, strength and quantity.
      • Resolve issues pertaining to prescription with prescriber or pharmacist.
      • Complete prescription label for medication.
      • Provide direct instruction to patients.

      Requirements


      • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
      • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
      • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
      • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
      • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
      • This is a Term position scheduled to last 2 years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of eight years depending upon the needs of management.
      • Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
      • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
      • PTCB National Pharmacy license/certification may be required.
      • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.

      Qualifications

      In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.       Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes: (1) filling prescriptions and distributing pharmaceuticals for customers; (2) utilizing pharmacy-based computer systems used in hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacies, or in pharmaceutical firms or laboratories to fill prescriptions. and (3) providing patient education or instructions to patients.

      Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Pharmacology.

      OR

      Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
