      About the Position: This position is located at Defense Health Network Pacific Rim, Naval Medical Center San Diego, CA; Directorate of Clinical Support Pharmacy.

      This position is located in Pharmacy Department within the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED).

      This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

      Duties


      • Processes medication orders by using computerized order entry in and extraction of pertinent drug data from patient charts and/ or through patient interview.
      • Performs substantial bulk compounding, including complex products.
      • Prepares, stores, and issues sterile and non-sterile drug preparations following established guidelines.
      • Performs technical functions with computer-based systems and software such as: transcribes prescriptions into the current pharmacy computer system.
      • Assists Pharmacist in the drug utilization, quality assurance, and improvement activities as well as provides guidance or assists less experienced medical personnel.
      • Serves as a representative of the Pharmacy, often independently, by answering a wide range of inquiries from doctors, nurses, and other staff on the availability of specific items.

      Requirements


      • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
      • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
      • This position requires the completion of an Occupational Health pre-employment Physical Examination.
      • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
      • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
      • This position has a requirement to lift up to 40lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
      • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
      • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact.
      • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
      • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
      • The incumbent may be required to work on any day or shift, including night, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis.

      Specialized Experience: I have one year of specialized experience in the Federal service which includes: 1) preparing medications for dispensing; and 2) distributing pharmaceuticals ensuring safe medication distribution; and 3) utilizing pharmacy-based computer systems to process prescriptions and medication orders.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

      Candidates with a Pharmacy Technician License are HIGHLY PEFERRED.
