      A Philanthropy Officer (PO) is a key member of Rocky Mountain Public Media's Philanthropy team, responsible for securing significant philanthropic support through the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donors. This role manages a dynamic portfolio of donors and prospects, and is instrumental in driving revenue for general operating support, programmatic initiatives, and strategic capital campaigns and priorities.

      The PO collaborates closely with internal and external partners-including executive leadership, and fellow philanthropy team members-to develop personalized donor strategies, prepare compelling proposals and materials, and coordinate high-impact engagement and recognition efforts. The PO also contributes to the design and execution of stewardship plans, manages accurate donor records in alignment with moves management and campaign tracking protocols, and uses data to inform engagement strategies and forecast fundraising performance.

      Success in this role requires strong relationship-building skills, proven experience managing a portfolio of major donors, and the ability to translate complex organizational priorities into inspiring philanthropic opportunities. The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of fundraising best practices, experience with capital campaigns, a commitment to collaboration, and a passion for public media.


      PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES SUMMARY:

      • 60% - Manage a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects, including those supporting capital campaign initiatives. Develop and implement individualized strategies to cultivate, solicit, and steward donors, resulting in renewed, upgraded, and new philanthropic commitments. Prepare tailored proposals, gift agreements, and campaign materials aligned with RMPM's strategic and capital priorities. Engage with donors regularly through in-person meetings, phone calls, written communication, and events.
      • 20% -Execute the comprehensive stewardship and engagement plan, ensuring thoughtful follow-up and donor recognition. Use data from the CRM (ROI) to segment donor audiences and create customized engagement opportunities. Collaborate with colleagues and leadership to align stewardship activities with organizational initiatives, campaign milestones, and donor preferences.
      • 15% - Maintain accurate and timely records of all donor interactions, strategies, and activities in accordance with moves management protocols and data integrity standards. Track progress toward revenue and activity goals through regular portfolio reviews and CRM reporting. Ensure data supports effective donor cultivation, capital campaign tracking, and revenue forecasting.
      • 5%- Support special campaigns by ensuring accurate and up-to-date records of campaign gifts, pledges, and donor interactions are recorded in the CRM. Use fundraising knowledge to ensure accurate tracking of campaign-related data to support reporting, stewardship, and forecasting. Assist with the creation and distribution of campaign updates, impact reports, and personalized donor communications to enhance engagement, acknowledge milestones, and reinforce donor commitment throughout the campaign lifecycle.

      JOB RESPONSIBILITY DETAILS:

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

      • Strategic Donor Stewardship and Cultivation: Design, implement, and refine a comprehensive stewardship and engagement plan aimed at retaining and upgrading current major donors, cultivating new prospects, and re-engaging lapsed supporters. Develop individualized cultivation strategies that deepen relationships and align donor interests with RMPM's mission and priorities.
      • Portfolio Management and Revenue Generation: Manage a dynamic portfolio of major gift donors and prospects with a focus on securing support for general operating needs, programmatic initiatives, and capital projects. Consistently grow portfolio performance, meeting or exceeding annual revenue goals and key activity benchmarks.
      • Donor Engagement and Solicitation: Conduct meaningful donor interactions-including in-person visits, personalized communications, and small-group events-to update donors on impact, build trust, and solicit philanthropic support. Collaborate with colleagues and leadership to coordinate joint cultivation and stewardship efforts and support cross-departmental donor strategies.
      • Capital Campaign Responsibilities: Support the execution of special initiatives and capital campaigns through the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of campaign-specific major gift prospects. Assist with campaign strategy development, prospect pipeline management, and donor recognition activities. Prepare compelling campaign proposals, gift agreements, and supporting materials tailored to donor interests and campaign priorities.
      • Collaborative Fundraising Initiatives: Partner with the Vice President of Philanthropy and organizational leadership to develop and execute strategies for major and planned gift solicitations. Work closely with Board members and campaign volunteers to leverage their networks for major gift prospecting.
      • Data-Driven Strategy and Reporting: Utilize the donor database (ROI) to manage portfolio activity, track engagement, and generate reports for revenue tracking, portfolio reviews, event planning, and campaign monitoring. Maintain detailed and timely records of all donor interactions and strategies.
      • Planned Giving Identification and Engagement: Identify and cultivate planned giving prospects within assigned portfolio and through strategic outreach. Collaborate with planned giving specialists or consultants to develop and present legacy giving opportunities.
      • Goal Setting and Performance Tracking: Establish and monitor individual goals and action plans for each portfolio prospect. Meet or exceed monthly and quarterly performance metrics related to donor activity and revenue generation.
      • Campaign and Philanthropy Event Execution: Assist in planning and executing donor cultivation and stewardship events-including those tied to a capital campaign and broader philanthropy initiatives-ensuring meaningful engagement and visibility for major donors.
      • Organizational Representation and Professional Development: Represent RMPM in the community and at events to build relationships and enhance visibility among philanthropic audiences. Actively engage in professional development opportunities such as AFP, CPGR, and other relevant associations.
      • Team Collaboration and Internal Communication: Maintain close communication with internal stakeholders to remain informed about RMPM's strategic priorities, programming, and campaign milestones. Collaborate across departments to align donor engagement strategies with organizational goals.
      • Other Duties as Assigned: Perform additional responsibilities as required to support the success of the development department and organizational fundraising goals.

      Minimum Qualifications of Position:

      • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising is necessary.
      • Proven success inspiring people and managing positive working relationships with boards, volunteers, and staff to meet organizational goals.
      • Strong portfolio management skills with a demonstrated experience in identifying and qualifying major and capital gift donors.
      • Knowledge of and experience working on capital campaigns is a plus.
      • Demonstrated ability providing exceptional customer service to donors and community stakeholders. Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work professionally and productively with persons at all levels.
      • A sophisticated and comprehensive understanding of fundraising principles and practices, and a demonstrated high level of professionalism, collegiality, self-motivation, and success in fundraising.
      • Must possess excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills; great attention to detail; the ability to process and maintain confidential information; and develop strong relationships with both internal and external constituencies to promote a positive collaborative spirit across the organization's network.
      • Experience with donor management software experience is required (RMPM uses ROI REV).
      • Demonstrated experience with prospect research and identifying and qualifying major and capital campaign donors.
      • Highly proficient and demonstrated knowledge and experience with Office 365 (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and other Microsoft apps such as SharePoint is required.
      • Must be able to work both independently and as a collaborative and productive team member.

      Preferred Qualifications of Position

      • Demonstrated Success in Capital Campaigns: Experience contributing to or leading capital campaign fundraising efforts, including managing donor pipelines, preparing campaign materials, and securing major gifts.
      • Strong Collaboration and Adaptability: Proven ability to collaborate effectively across teams and departments in a fast-paced, evolving environment. Comfortable working within an organization that iterates quickly and operates under significant external visibility and pressure.
      • Deep Knowledge of Public Media or Mission-Driven Organizations: Familiarity with the mission, values, and funding models of public media or similar nonprofit organizations, with the ability to effectively convey impact to donors.
      • Advanced CRM and Data Analysis Skills: Strong proficiency in donor management systems (preferably ROI REV or similar) and the ability to analyze donor data to inform engagement strategies and revenue forecasting
