      Responsible for performing venipuncture on patients in assigned areas within the Medical Center, and prepares these specimens for delivery to indicated laboratories.

      Qualifications

      • HS/GED
      • Medical Assistant experience in a Cardiology or Internal Medicine Practice or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

      Responsibilities

      1. Performs phlebotomy on patients for required tests.

      2. Carefully follows accession orders, selecting peripheral vein, cleaning site and applying tourniquet.

      3. Draws correct number and types to tubes on properly identified patients.

      4. Ascertains tubes contain sufficient blood and are appropriately labeled.

      5. Bands tubes according to labs as per established protocols and places tubes in carriers.

      6. Prepares donor assessments, checks vital signs, medical history and accurately documents the results for all potential donors as per established protocols.

      7. Communicates any problems or issues and alerts management accordingly.

      8. Keeps work area in a clean and orderly condition. Safely disposes of contaminated equipment and maintains a safe working environment.

      9. Performs daily, weekly or monthly quality control processes.

      10. Accountable for delegated tasks assigned by the RN/CNM within scope of the position.

      11. Follows guidelines of OSHA, NYSDH, CAP and other regulatory agencies.
