Job Description
- Req#: 11195
- Consistently follows laboratory policy regarding verification of patient identification prior to obtaining specimen and ensures specimens are appropriately labeled with patient identifiers, date and time of collection and initials.
- Collects and transports specimens by priority to the Laboratory in a timely manner using appropriate precautions.
- Performs procedures utilizing Standard Precautions to minimize the potential for exposure to infectious processes and disposes of all needles and syringes and or other items used in specimen collection to minimize exposure potential to self and others.
- In collaboration with the supervisors, determines supplies required for provision of services and maintains adequate inventory.
- Utilizes appropriate safety precautions in all procedures to promote patient comfort.
Communicates effectively with patients, physicians, supervisors, and other personnel in the hospital to fulfill position responsibilities.

Summary/Objective
The Phlebotomist responsible for collecting blood samples using venipuncture or skin techniques and obtaining other specimens for ordered diagnostic studies. This Clinical position requires skills and experience in processing specimens in an efficient manner. The Phlebotomist must support the mission of providing Sacred Work to all who enter the doors of Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas.
