      Job Title: Phlebotomist


      Job Description

      We are seeking a dedicated Phlebotomist to join our team in Hamilton. With a current staff of seven, this role will expand our team to nine phlebotomists. Our facility is the busiest in the territory, seeing 220-230 patients daily and up to 210 patients on Saturdays during short shifts. The role involves handling high volumes efficiently, with the ability to manage up to 80 patients per hour. The position requires experience working with geriatric patients and the ability to provide excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment.

      Responsibilities

      • Perform blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles.
      • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
      • Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collections clearly and courteously.
      • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
      • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
      • Ensure test requisitions match computer labels for accuracy.
      • Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.
      • Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes and label them accurately.
      • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
      • Attend annual department training sessions.
      • Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results to inquiries.

      Essential Skills

      • Proficiency in phlebotomy and blood draw techniques.
      • Experience with specimen collection and labeling.
      • Ability to handle high patient volumes efficiently.
      • One year of experience in a high-volume environment.
      • Excellent customer service skills.

      Additional Skills & Qualifications

      • Experience with geriatric patient care.
      • Familiarity with pre-employment, paternity test, biometric testing procedures.
      • Understanding of physicians' orders.
      • Ability to work as part of a well-oiled team.

      Work Environment

      The work schedule is Monday to Friday from 6:30 AM to 3 PM, with additional hours on Saturdays from 7 AM to 11 AM. The facility includes 6-7 rooms for blood draws, a waiting area, and processing rooms, requiring a professional demeanor and teamwork. The environment is fast-paced, demanding patience and the ability to keep up with high patient volume.

      Pay and Benefits

      The pay range for this position is $17.40 - $20.65/hr.
