      Job summary

      We are a friendly, innovative, and enthusiastic team, seeking a similarly motivated Phlebotomist or Healthcare Assistant.

      Your role will be to support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.

      Main duties of the job

      We are looking for a person to join a well established team to undertake phlebotomy duties, but would consider a Healthcare Assistant role for the right candidate. (Dependent on the candidate being able to demonstrate the necessary training, skills, and experience to fulfil this role.)

      The Phlebotomist / Healthcare Assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

      Job description

      Job responsibilities

      The following are the core responsibilities of the phlebotomist. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

      a. Perform venepunture and collect blood samples from patients

      b. Properly identify and label specimens, ensuring accuracy and compliance with laboratory standards

      c. Maintain detailed and accurate patient records and documentation of procedures

      d. Prepare specimens for the laboratory for testing, following all relevant protocols

      e. Adhere to infection prevention and control and safety procedures at all time

      f. Provide compassionate and professional care to patients, addressing any concerns and ensuring their comfort during the procedure

      g. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to support patient diagnosis, treatment and care plans

      h. Act as a chaperone as required

      i. Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation

      j. Montior fridge temperatures and ensure

      k. Ensure sharps bins are locked and replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy

      l. Check drugs in GP bags are in date, record findings, and replace if necessary

      m.Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate

      In addition to the primary responsibilities, the phlebotomist may be requested to:

      a. Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit lead

      b. Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care

      c. Support and participate in shared learning within the practice

      • Qualified in Phlebotomy
      • Good General Education

      Desirable

      • Healthcare Qualification (level 3 or 4) or working towards gaining equivalent level
      • Ear syringing qualification
