      Job Title: Phlebotomist

      Job Description

      The primary role of the Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

      Responsibilities

      • Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge them as needed.
      • Record maintenance data and decontaminate equipment.
      • Update patient information and collect specimens according to established procedures.
      • Clearly explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods, such as urine or fecal, when required.
      • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
      • Fully understand and follow physicians' orders.
      • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
      • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
      • Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.
      • Package specimens for transport, ensuring proper storage and labeling.
      • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department training.
      • Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy queries.

      Essential Skills

      • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.
      • Minimum of 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a lab or hospital setting.
      • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
      • High School Diploma or GED.
      • 1-2 years of experience in phlebotomy required.

      Additional Skills & Qualifications

      • Experience with pediatric to geriatric patients required.
      • Proficient in blood draw, venipuncture, and specimen collection.
      • Customer service experience.
      • Data entry skills.
      • Ability to draw blood using butterfly needles.

      Work Environment

      This position is based in a very busy Patient Service Center (PSC) where the employee will be on their feet for most of the day. The work hours are from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The team setting includes three phlebotomists on site. Experience with pediatric patients is required. TB vaccination is required.

      Pay and Benefits

      The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.
