      Job Description

      We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist III to join our team in a dynamic environment. This role involves performing various tasks related to specimen collection, processing, and maintenance, ensuring that all procedures are carried out efficiently and accurately. The phlebotomist will interact with patients, explain procedures, and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.

      Responsibilities

      • Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens according to established procedures.
      • Record maintenance data and decontaminate equipment as necessary.
      • Update patient information accurately.
      • Collect and store specimens following established protocols.
      • Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods to patients.
      • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
      • Understand and follow all physicians' orders precisely.
      • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.
      • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
      • Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.
      • Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperatures.
      • Ensure specimens are placed in appropriate collection containers and labeled correctly.
      • Follow procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport.
      • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
      • Attend annual department trainings.
      • Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

      Essential Skills

      • Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required.
      • Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
      • High School Diploma or GED.

      Additional Skills & Qualifications

      • Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
      • Ability to troubleshoot and make workflow recommendations.

      Work Environment

      This role is based in a Patient Service Center (PSC), working alongside one or more phlebotomists and involves drawing blood from outpatients. Responsibilities include entering doctor orders into the computer system, verifying insurance, taking copays or payments, drawing blood, and processing specimens for courier pickup. The position operates on a schedule from 7 AM to 4 PM.

      Pay and Benefits

      The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $24.00/hr.
