      Job summary

      This is a clinical role working under the supervision of the practice nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols; the Health Care Assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

      • BP monitoring
      • Phlebotomy
      • Weight monitoring
      • Restocking/maintenance of equipment
      • Restocking of clinical areas
      • Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care.
      • Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
      • Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
      • Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
      • Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post.

      THE CASTLE MEDICAL CENTRE

      Job Title: Phlebotomist

      Main Purpose of Post: To provide phlebotomy service to practice population

      Responsible To: Nurse Lead (Clinically)

      Practice Managers (Administratively)

      Main duties and responsibilities of the post

      Phlebotomy Service

      • To run a daily phlebotomy service for all patients of the practice.

      1. Ensuring Health & Safety legislation is adhered to at all times
      2. Ensuring each sample is clearly labelled and sent to the Path lab in a timely manner
      3. Ensuring all relevant paperwork has been complete

      • To undertake domiciliary visits for housebound patients requiring INR monitoring.

      Administrative duties

      • To maintain adequate stock levels in order to provide a phlebotomy service.
      • To ensure all patient information is entered accurately into computer system
      • Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care.
      • Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports.

      Special Requirements

      • The post holder must be qualified as a phlebotomist or willing to undertake the necessary training.
      • The post holder must ensure their Hep B immunity is at a satisfactory level and inform the Practice of this.
      • The post holder must liaise closely with the nurses/HCA on duty.
      • Excellent communication skills
      • Ability to work effectively in a team
      • Ability to interact with patients and colleagues in a professional manner
