- Perform venipuncture procedures on patients to collect blood specimens following policies for positive patient identification
- Accession all incoming specimens according to laboratory protocols
- Ensure all specimens are properly labeled, processed, and distributed to appropriate laboratory sections
- Maintain high standards for specimen collection, handling, and processing
- Process specimens in a timely manner, following written guidance for specific turnaround time requirements
- Collect specimens from inpatients and outpatients throughout the medical center
- Maintain accurate records of specimens collected and processed
- Utilize proper infection control and safety protocols during all procedures
- Maintain appropriate inventory of supplies
- Prepare specimens for testing or transport as required
- Adhere to all VA and laboratory safety policies and procedures
- Demonstrate excellent customer service skills when interacting with patients, staff, and visitors
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality for patients, families, and medical records
- Perform quality control checks on phlebotomy equipment as needed
- Document any problems with specimen collection or processing according to laboratory procedures
- Participate in required training and education programs
High school diploma or equivalent required
Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program preferred
Current phlebotomy certification preferred (e.g., American Society for Clinical Pathology, American Medical Technologists)
Experience as a phlebotomist in a healthcare setting within the last year
Experience with specimen accessioning and processing
Proficient knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory procedures
Ability to successfully undergo a Government sponsored background investigation (US Citizenship Required)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with patients and staff in a professional manner
Knowledge of laboratory computer systems preferred
Understanding of OSHA and safety regulations related to phlebotomy

CVP is seeking Phlebotomists to join our team in providing our Nation's Veterans with laboratory services for the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) in Montgomery, AL. This is a full-time position working Monday-Friday with possible weekend rotation.
