- Working under the direct supervision of the Senior Practice Nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the post-holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture to obtain blood samples from patients only as the result of a direct referral from a GP / hospital or Nurse Practitioner.
- Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample
- Collection of sample(s)s of blood in accordance with training and procedures
- Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers
- Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity
- Checking patient identification against GP/Nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible
- Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure
- Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.
- Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff
- Notifying the GP/Nurse of any significant patient issues
- Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team

Job summary
We are seeking a Phlebotomist to work 18 hours per week with us, Mon - Thur 8.30am - 1.00pm.
This role will involve working at all three of our sites.
The successful candidate must have completed an accredited phlebotomy training programme and have experience of blood taking.
It is also desirable, although not essential, that they have experience of using SystmOne
Main duties of the job
This role will mainly involve delivering a phlebotomy service i.e the taking and recording patients blood samples, but could also involve basic patient checks such as BP /new patient health checks and chaperone duties.

Dinnington Group Practice is a large busy training practice with the main surgeries at Dinnington and Anston and a smaller branch surgery at Woodsetts. We are part of Rother Valley Primary Care Network.
