      Duties


      • Serves as primary still photographer for events, editorial, product, advertising, and studio portrait photography, as well as photographic editor and archivist for all portraits and imagery.
      • Uses professional editing software in use in the industry to enhance contrast, color, and density of images by manipulating software tools to adjust lighting and remove obvious flaws to ensure proper image quality.
      • Coordinates with military, government, and contract personnel, prior to all photographic assignments to review plans and procedures and to determine the equipment and lighting needed to capture the desired imagery.
      • Conducts testing and evaluation of photographic systems, after procurement, prior to every shoot, upon the return of equipment from repair, and prior to and after returning issued equipment from other DOD personnel.
      • Writes descriptive and compelling, message-driven photo captions based on information including correct and preferred spelling of names, ranks and job titles, event information, and messaging and relevance to agency mission.

      • This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.

      Qualifications


      In addition to meeting the basic requirement, qualified applicants must possess: Major study -- photography, or other fields related to the position.

      One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade GS-11within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

      Specialized experience is defined as experience operating a variety of still photo cameras including DSLR (Digital Single-Lens Reflex) and mirrorless, with various focal lengths of glass and associated hardware as well as experience with digital processing software.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
