      Reuters is seeking a talented Photographer (Level 1 Journalist) to join our team in Los Angeles. The photojournalist will be responsible for covering news, entertainment and sports in L.A. and also reinforce coverage of national and international events.

      The photojournalist will be expected to provide video on selected stories and have experience in video. They will work closely with reporters and video journalists to create agenda-setting stories in the region. They must work well in a team but also be a proven self-starter. An ability to work in a fast-paced newsroom and across departments is critical.

      The successful applicant will produce top quality news photography in Los Angeles and across the USA, working in close collaboration with Reuters photo editors and staff photographers as well as editors on the Global Pictures Desk to contribute highly competitive pictures to the Reuters News Pictures file for U.S. and global subscribers. The photographer must enthusiastically embrace working with colleagues on a close- knit wire service team to produce a top-notch report. This position is offered on local terms.

      About the Role

      In this opportunity as Photographer (Level 1 Journalist), you will:

      • Cover breaking news stories with photos transmitted quickly to our global clients
      • Provide strong images from entertainment and set piece stories locally, nationally and internationally
      • Work with our global desk to ensure photos are well cropped and accurately captioned
      • Offer video on breaking news assignments or when necessary
      • Follow Reuters trust principles, always maintaining the highest ethical standards
      • Work collaboratively across teams and disciplines

      About You

      You're a fit for the role of Photographer (Level 1 Journalist) if your background includes:

      • Excellent photojournalism and editing skills proven by at last 3 years work experience as a full-time photojournalist
      • An understanding of wire service clients and market needs both domestically and internationally
      • Sports photography experience
      • Video experience and skill
      • Experience in working in a large team, and the understanding of the importance of every member in it
      • Excellent news judgment as well as a good knowledge of US politics and government
      • The ability to tell stories through pictures, producing picture packages and picture stories as well as capturing individual defining moments
      • A unique "eye" able to compose interesting pictures on the fly and produce a well-rounded report of pictures during fast changing news events
      • Experience and ability to compete at the highest-level working under high pressure against tight deadlines, transmitting photos on the run via Wi-Fi, cellular modems and satellite phones
      • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in team environments
      • Fluency in English with the ability to write clear, error-free captions
      • Drone license is an asset
      • Proficiency and expertise working with current photo editing and transmitting software

      Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The location(s) for this role include one or more of the following states: CA, CO, CT, IL, NV, TX, WA and/or remote. The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $70,000 - $125,500.
