- Provides technical and physical support for city facilities, security equipment and security systems.
- Assists in the development of physical security policies, procedures, and regulations for City facilities; Inspects, analyzes, and evaluates security systems.
- Recommends facility physical security projects, programs, systems, etc.
- Identifies vulnerabilities and threats to facilities based on a physical inspection of the site, discussion with key staff, and review of past incidents.
- Assists in the planning, design, implementation, assessment, and improvement of security programs including access control systems, digital video surveillance systems, CCTV (Closed-circuit television), building automation, physical intrusion detection systems in addition to information and decision-making systems.
- Four years of experience supporting a physical security program.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
- Knowledge of physical security concepts, principles, and best management practices; Extensive knowledge of state-of-the-art security equipment and the latest technology.
- Three or more years supervisory experience.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Must successfully complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) Incident Command System ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 Certifications within one year of employment.
- Complete Physical Security Specialist Certification within one year of employment.
- Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services Armed Security Officer Certification within 6 months of employment.
- Complete CPR Certification within three months of employment.
- Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm. Occasional overtime.
- This position is designated as essential and may be required to report to work during City closures due to inclement weather and other emergencies.
- This position is eligible for a $5,000 signing bonus.

General Services Security Division is responsible for the safety and security of over 250 city government facilities and its employees and patrons. The Division is staffed with employees responsible for access control, armed security, physical security, and administrative functions.
The Department of General Services is seeking a Physical Security Specialist for the Security Division. This position is responsible for the technical administrative support for the security of the city by overseeing the Central Monitoring Facility and providing technical expertise by assessing and planning the implementation of security systems and other security requirements.Essential functions include but are not limited to:
