      About the Position: Serves as a Physical Therapist for the Educational and Developmental Intervention Services program. This position is assigned to a hospital or clinic but services are provided primarily in the child's natural environment including: homes, schools, childcare facilities, or any other setting where young children typically spend their time.

      Duties


      • Provides education to promote available resources and services within the community.
      • Evaluates referred children and students who may have complex medical diagnosis (e.g., for early intervention or educational eligibility) and treatment planning.
      • Administers a variety of pediatric assessment tools.
      • Provides families with the knowledge, skills and support they require to meet and advocate for the needs and rights of their child in all settings.
      • Maintains documentation of all services, completes data entry in the government automated system for capturing data and documentation of services to children with special needs.
      • Serves as service coordinator for assigned families and as liaison with medical providers, school-based or other community-based service delivery programs.

      Requirements

      • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

      • In accordance with BUMEDINST 1500.15F, employees assigned to or subject to being assigned to duties providing direct patient care, either diagnostic or therapeutic must possess and maintain the Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
      • Position requires regular contact with children under the age 18/favorable determination of suitability and periodic re-verification check of multiple agency records in accordance with DHA Administrative Instruction Number 5200.05 dated 12-21-2022.
      • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
      • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations in accordance with DoD Instruction number 6205.02 dated 02-27-2023
      • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual season influenza vaccinations in accordance with DHA Procedural Instruction Number 6025.34 dated 08-21-2020.
      • This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete and maintain credentialing and privileging requirements in accordance with DHA Procedures Manual Number 6025.13, Volume 4 dated 08-29-2019.
      • This position requires a valid, state-issued and USAREUR Driver’s License and must be insurable in order to travel to other locations in the Command’s structure.
      • This position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
      • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

      In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.       Basic Requirement for Physical Therapist:

      Degree: A graduate (or higher level) degree that included a physical therapy curriculum approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a professional accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained, and completion of the clinical requirements prescribed by the school.

      Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physical Therapist from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and must have passed the National Physical Therapy Examination administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT).

      Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0633 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.

      In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

      Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes coordinating with community agencies and school systems to ensure children of special needs are identified and referred for evaluation; providing consultation and technical assistance to other early intervention team members and agencies within the area of responsibility; maintaining appropriate ongoing contact with families to detect and respond to changes in family or child needs and adapts the Individualized Family Service Plan to meet changing child and family needs and priorities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
