Summary:
Under supervision of the Chief Radiation Oncology Physicist, the Physicist II (Board Certified) performs medical physics periodic calibration, monitoring, and safety evaluation of all radiation producing or ancillary equipment as well as the calculation of patient dosimetry plans as prescribed and supervised by the Radiation Oncologist.Responsibilities:
Provides necessary medical physics support for all aspects of radiation therapy including, but not limited to, 3D and IMRT/VMAT (Intensity-Modulated Radiation therapy/Volumetric-Modulated Arc Therapy) treatment planning, HDR (High-Dose Rate), LDR (Low-Dose Rate), Y90, IGRT (Image-Guided Radiation Therapy), SRS/SBRT (Stereotactic Radiosurgery/Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy), TBI (Total Body Irradiation), DIBH (Deep Inspiration Breath-Hold), 4D CT, and Gating.Facilitates quality management processes of the department including chart checks and dose calculations. Implements, assists with and monitors the department's radiation safety program and ensures the program's compliance with applicable laws and regulations.Performs quality assurance, including acceptance test and commissioning for LINAC machines and other equipment used in the Radiation Oncology department; monitors imaging/treatment equipment periodic testing and calibration; develops and implements appropriate shielding designs, frequent surveys, and routine exposure monitoring.Collaborates with dosimetrist and radiation oncologist to develop radiation therapy treatment plans. Develops and monitors protocols and policies to ensure accurate patient dosimetry.Oversees organization's radiation safety program and ensures the program's compliance with applicable laws and regulations.Competencies:

Complexity of Work: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Requires good communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate the exchange of information with patients, family members, and the radiation oncology treatment team. Required Work Experience: Three (3) years of experience as a medical physicist. Other Information: Additional Education Info: Master’s degree in Physics or Medical Physics.Additional Cert/License Info: Therapeutic Radiological Physicist (TRP LICENSE) required and Qualified Medical Physicist-Therapeutic certification from either ABNP or ABR.Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
