      What is the role?

      Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Physiotherapist, SHIELD.

      The physiotherapist role focuses on helping AFP employees recover from injury and guiding them in improving their strength and movement. The role is committed to providing a high standard of client care and the provision of specialist advice and support using appropriate treatment therapies.

      You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

      What will you do?


      Duties of the role include but are not limited to:

      • Making assessments of physical conditions and effectively and formally monitor client progress
      • Formulating treatment plans to address the conditions and needs of the client/s
      • Collaboratively working with Exercise Physiologists and Health & Fitness advisors to monitor and improve employee physical health
      • Facilitating group based exercise and education sessions
      • Providing scope specific contribution to SHIELD early intervention and prevention programs
      • Contributing to programs and initiatives that positively influence musculoskeletal health across the wider AFP population
      • Contribute to SHIELD efforts to embed a culture of health within the wider AFP
      • Referrals to doctors and other medical practitioners (as required)
      • Planning and organising physiotherapy and fitness programs
      • Liaising and working with other healthcare professionals (such as a GP, nurse, health & fitness instructors) to encourage a holistic approach to treatment and care

      Essential Requirements

      • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
      • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
      • Degree in physiotherapy and Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) unrestricted registration as a physiotherapist
      • Minimum of five years (postgraduate) contemporary experience
      • Maintain currency in subject matter expertise through ongoing professional development and learning opportunities outside the formal education process.
      • Ability to quickly establish effective and authentic rapport
      • Demonstrated high level emotional intelligence
      • Excellent administration and record keeping skills

      Desirable Requirements

      The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:

      • Current valid Australian driver’s license
      • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team in a large organisational setting
      • Research experience
      • Experience using Microsoft Office products
      • Availability to undertake domestic travel (if required)

      Additional Information

      There are currently two temporary vacancies in the SHIELD Canberra teams. These roles are usually based at the AFP National HQ in Barton, however, there is a requirement to travel to other AFP Canberra based location to provide physio services.

      It is important to note that these roles are not able to be undertaken remotely and given the nature of the role there is limited ability for work from home arrangements. These roles are open for consideration of part-time and/or flexible work arrangements.
