      A unique opportunity to work in BC Parks to protect and maintain park values and provide exceptional visitor experience

      BC Parks is seeking qualified individuals to work as full-time Park Rangers in Vancouver and Squamish's Provincial parks. This position is responsible for the maintenance of facilities, and for delivering, monitoring and reporting on assigned recreation, conservation and extension services and activities within a park or group of parks. It directly manages park facilities and includes cleaning and maintenance of those facilities for the use and enjoyment of park visitors. This position includes working in mountainous terrain in winter conditions, and requires intermediate to advanced level of skiing ability, experience travelling and recreating in the winter mountain environment and knowledge (such as avalanche safety) that allow Rangers to be safe while at work, which includes patrols in the backcountry, and participate in keeping their team members safety a top priority.

      Other duties include the management of park visitors, ensuring compliance with the Park Act and other applicable acts and regulations, taking enforcement actions to address non-compliance and responding to park emergencies. The position represents BC Parks as field contact for park visitors, volunteers, partners, and contractors by providing information and overseeing activities.

      Job Requirements:

      • Completed related degree or 2-year diploma in an Outdoor Recreation Management or a Natural Resource Management related field (related field may include: Biology, Geology, Geography, Recreational Planning, Outdoor Recreation, Forestry, Fisheries, Anthropology); OR,
      • Secondary school graduation (or equivalent) and 2 years’ related experience (related experience can include: park system (operations), conservation, outdoor recreation, forestry, any earth sciences, recreation planning, public safety /enforcement).

      Mandatory Training & Certification:

      • Current and WorkSafe BC recognized Occupational First Aid Level 1, 2 or 3 Certificate.
      • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence (or equivalent from another Canadian Province; a BC Class 7L/7N, or other learner’s permit, are not considered equivalent).
      • Successful completion of Enhanced Security Screening, including fingerprint screening.
      • Completion of BC Parks Law and Its Administration (BCIT PRKS 1010 or 0010 course). This course can be obtained through the BC Institute of Technology (BCIT). Course information can be found at:https://www.bcit.ca/study/courses/prks1010.

      *Note: if you have already successfully completed the BCIT PRKS 3110/3120 courses, BCIT course 1010 is not required.

      • Maintains a current Firearms Possession and Acquisition Licence
      • Possesses a Pleasure Craft Operator Card or higher marine certification issued by Transport Canada

      Provisos:

      • Will be required to perform extensive outdoor work required during all seasons, in various types of terrain, in remote areas of the province, often in inclement weather.
      • Will be required to undertake cleaning and maintenance tasks including cleaning of pit toilets, campsites, and other park facilities.
      • Will be required to undertake compliance and enforcement duties in stressful situations, and issue violation tickets, administrative sanctions or other enforcement actions, and defend those actions in court.
      • May be exposed to emergency response situations involving injured, distraught or deceased individuals.
      • May be exposed to unpleasant interactions with upset and angry protected area visitors, clients or contractors and address, or provide support, during, confrontational situations.
      • Will be required to travel within region and conduct extensive field work. May be required to carry overnight packs(15-20 kg).
      • Will be required to wear a uniform according to the BC Parks Uniform Policy and adhere to policies and guidance to maintain a professional enforcement officer appearance.
      • Will be required to work in an office setting and use computers, printers, and other IT devices, to prepare reports, conduct data entry and manage and export information contained in databases.
